The debate over Christmas spreads to Thanksgiving
From Slate magazine
In Christianity Today's Leadership Journal, Eric Reed decried a "thankless society" that has forgotten the holiday's putative religious significance. R. Albert Mohler Jr. of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary called the secular vision of Thanksgiving "empty and false" on the Washington Post religion blog, On Faith. And conservative Web site WorldNetDaily offers up Thanksgiving-themed magnetic bumper stickers that counsel, "Remember to thank HIM" --perhaps an admonition to those who would merely thank their lucky stars.

I agree: I am greatly saddened when I hear so much of "Let's be thankful" or "We've got so much to be thankful for." I concede that one can simply be appreciative of all that one has and enjoys; but there is a gaping hole in the whole fabric of "Tahnksgiving" in its traditional context of thankfulness to the God of the Bible.
But it just echos the general unidimensionality of our current social milieu. Man, left to himself can only implode upon himself. There is no release to His Creator and Redeemer, no holistic rejoicing in the Presence of the One who has provided "every good and perfect gift" - particularly the One who died to redeem a fallen world and rectify all its evil and despair. He alone is the "Fount of Every Blessing" and the reason for the season.
Psalm 100!
