Drivers often slowed down to take the whole scene in

The Nativity scene at Greensboro College had such presence that even on a hot December day you miss it.

I miss it very much. Many times over the years I'd go out of the way just to ride by -- particularly in the evening when the nativity was illuminated. It is one of those losses that should seem small and inconsequential compared with news of loss of life and other tragedies. Still, somewhere deep in the heart this one hits home.

sad. wanton. idiotic. let's go out and destory a thing of joy, just for kicks and giggles.

I believe whoever did this is already looking back, thoroughly ashamed.

(if they're not, I will personally kick them where it hurts.)

Although unproveable at this point, it may be another incident of anti-Christian violence that seems to be all too common these days. The shootings in Colorado are obviously of this sort. It may well be derivative of more "sophisticated" anti-Christian bias coming from the general media and academia - with politcal motivations.

And even though a few Christian leaders have hurt people through their sin and hypocrisy, there is still no excuse for wanton murder. There just seems to be an escalation in hate and violence across the culture. Although there are various contributing sociological factors, the root cause of crime and violence is sin - a widespread departure from biblical truth and law, resulting in guilt, misery, and resentment; which, in turn, spawns anger and violent reprisals.

Nikos, you ought to read the stories being written about the Colorado shootings. There, you'll find that the attacker was a deeply disturbed young man, brought up in a devoutly Christian, home-schooled family, whose brain went bad.

As to the vandalism of the GC display, I think it's very probable that it was a juvenile act of rebellion by church-going brats with a gut full of beer and nothing left to do after a late-night bender. They'll probably never be caught and made to pay for the danage they caused, so we'll never know for sure.

Nikos, I gotta agree with namtac. I doubt there is any vast academia/media anti-GC-nativity conspiracy here just as I doubt there was any vast right wing/fundamentalist anti-reptile-science conspiracy behind the destruction of the turtle statues at the Science Center.
