I'm so glad they caught the alleged perp.

what's the appropriate punishment? it's Christmas, so I guess after he's rebuilt the scene with his own 2 hands - and paid for any costs involved - and had his name publicised and reviled in the local press - then the judge may go easy on the recommended sentence for inane vandalism by a juvenile.

(that's all after he's been found guilty by a jury of his peers, of course. the dumb bastard.)

I, too, am glad that this idiot with no respect for others' property has been caught. Seems to me that the legal punishments available through the courts should be the proper ones available. Wouldn't you think so?

Why should this not be classified as a hate crime? Had this student attacked a mosque, a synogogue or a black church, all hell would have been raised. This was a planned attack against MY religion and the tangible things that represent the very birth of our beliefs. A hate crime is defined as a criminal offense committed against a person, property, or society that is motivated, in whole or in part, by the offender's bias against a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or ethnicity/national origin.

Our normally biased newspaper should at least be equally biased towards punishing and humiliating those who make attacks against the Christian faith at out holiest time of year. Had the shoe been on any other foot, this would have been front page news in Greensboro for the next six months. Why is it that our own newspaper has not exposed this criminal act truthfully and completely?

The perpetrator should be dismissed from UNC-G, run out of town, and not allowed to attend any state supported school. If he goes to college at any state supported school, YOU AND I are paying his way.

Riiight. Some drunk college kid knocks over some fiberglass statues, and Susan wants to turn it into Krystallnacht. Good one!

"This was a planned attack against MY religion"........................... "dismissed from UNC-G, run out of town, and not allowed to attend any state supported school".......................
when pilate offered to release Jesus the crowd yelled 'crucify him' and this is what we would expect from the world.
Christians are called to another standard, i.e. "Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord,......" also "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, [and] to keep himself unspotted from the world.
i believe we as Christians ought to seek an opportunity to forgive this individual (he should demonstrate repentance) before we cast him out (like the world would). try to remember that Christians are to be separate and unspotted from the world and that should preclude us acting differently than they.
do not take this as me condoning his actions - i believe if you do the crime be ready to do the time.
as we grow spiritually we should become closer each day to modelling what Jesus would do and i can't hear Him saying "The perpetrator should be dismissed from UNC-G, run out of town, and not allowed to attend any state supported school. If he goes to college at any state supported school, YOU AND I are paying his way." - i do however hear Him say "Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven."
if we look like the world, sound like the world, act like the world and talk like the world, then perhaps we are of the world and maybe not as Christian as we are called to be. the person who is most apppreciative of forgiveness is the one who has to MOST to be forgiven of !! merry Christmas.........

Christmas is the holiest Christian holiday? So the birth was more important than the resurrection to Christians? Perhaps you need to re-examine that contextually outside of the commercial hoopla surrounding the season.

I think a couple of statues getting knocked over is a far cry from someone attacking a church, mosque, or synagogue. What a remarkable Christian compassion you have demonstrated!

What is this world coming to?

First it's Santa Claus at Friendly Center and now this...

We need to teach and learn values...

Where is the line between church and state... In this case university and the state legal system. Would this add to $15K+ in property damage? This is certainly not a small claims matter. 45 days "in jail" is a slap on the wrist, shelter and food. Sincere Public Repentance/Apology, Community Service, full repayment plan and removal from school and therapy.
