When identity trumps diversity
"The history of Christian institutions of higher education in this country justifies caution in this area. Nearly all Christian colleges and universities that distanced themselves from their founding denominations and theological traditions eventually also drifted away from being Christian in any meaningful way."

I had a friend once - an ordained Baptist minister - who told me that religious universities, with their mission of open intellectual inquiry, necessarily tend over time to move toward the liberal end of the philosophical/theological spectrum. Perhaps there is a lesson there for those who feel it's more important to make faith a static thing.

As we must remember during this whole campaign season, "change" is NOT necessarily good. ( although in politics, change is always necessary)Russia "changed" to toltalitarian communism. France changed from a decadent monarchy to a head-severing humanisitic gangsta state. And institutions that once held to the verities of the Christian Faith, and then "changed" to unbelief and secularism, have the truth of God's Word for a mess of pottage.
The Scriptures warn continuously, OT and NT, that sinful man has a tendency to fall away from the high ground of the moral Law and biblical social principles. The inevitable result of abandoning the Word as the true and reliable revelation of God leads inexorably to general disbelief and moral decay - as per OT Israel.
Our once great Christain institutions have become bastions of Humanism, Marxist liberation theology and radical amoralism. As noted, Change is NOT always for the better.
Whether it is an individual Christian, or a large institution, the process is the same - a downward spiral from solid truth to confusion, from the Law/Word of God to moral relativism, from light to darkness - no matter how frilly and trendy the intellectual garb.
