Case of helmet versus religion

BRAMPTON, Ont. - A judge has dismissed the case of a devout Sikh man who argued his religious rights were violated when he received a ticket for riding his motorcycle without a helmet. The judge said helmetless riding caused extra safety risks that would impose an undue hardship on the province. The man he should be exempt from the law requiring a helmet be worn while driving a motorcycle because it violates his constitutional rights to practice his religion requiring him to wear a turban at all times while outside his home.

I think i saw some D.O.T. approved turbans for sale on ebay - they come in four colors and are equipped with matching chin straps.
in the article the sikh complained that we don't understand their culture or religion - how about them understanding our culture and our laws. if they choose to live here (or in canada) then they are subject to the rules and regulations which society at large are subject to.
just more of the 'special entitlement' club whining to get their own way.

Now, Buz, don't you remember the scripture that says, "Sikh and you shall find" - a way to keep your turban and keep the law too. Sorry about that. Just couldn't resist it.

Seems like every religious group gets special treatment these days except Christians who want to bring their Bibles to school, get off on Sundays, or share Christ one-on-one with co-workers.

nikos,
:-)

i believe the main reason Christ(ians) are given biased treatment and rejected is that those individuals fear of Jesus' claim as being the 'only' way to the Father. they want to believe that there are 'other' ways to please God - such as going to church, giving an offering, volunteeering, helping the needy, being a good person, living a moral life, doing penance, saying hail mary's etc. & etc. - those traits in themselves may have some intrinsic value but in no way can replace Gods call for repentance and acceptance of His son Jesus Christ as the 'only' Savior of souls.
the sikh in this article complains of his constitutional rights being violated - maybe he should remember what rights he had (or didn't have) in his homeland and be thankful for the provision(s) he is currently enjoying. this individual has been given his day in court and lost his appeal - time for him to take up bicycle riding (provided there is no helmet law for such in canada).
have a happy day nikos !!

Yes, Buz, they may fear it, but some are also very angry about it. It's just the price we pay for having our hearts hopelessly conquered by the Heavenly Beloved and Savior of our souls. He siad that if they hated Him they would also hate us. The more I think about Truth, the more I realize how awesome it is, how compelling and all-consuming - how uniqe and totally exclusive. It enabled our ancient brethren to be lion food, and us to be ridiculed and rejected today. And who knows what the future holds.

And you're right. Nothing else, especially "religionism" can substitute for grace - all of God, and none of us. Sole Fide and Sola Gratia. No works, just sheer grace, and that ONLY through the perfect atonement of Jesus the Messiah. The longer I live, the more I realize that the only way I will EVER see heaven's glory is IN HIM.
