Go in Peace

Being a hospice chaplain really isn't about religion -- although it can be -- but about all those things that give life meaning.

One of my dearest friends is a hospice chaplain. Every time I sit down to eat a meal with him, I hear his tales from his work. He really loves the work, and I know that he is a terrific fit for the job. I'm glad that this service is available. It is one that everyone should consider supporting in any way they can.

It takes a special person with a leading to work in this venue. namtac, I applaud your friend. At one point, I was considering a leading in a very similar venue. Yet, I was not following the real leading. Most pastors/ministers have to deal with end of life issues/matters with congregants at some point. It is not the easiest thing to handle, especially when it is a strong member of the congregation. I saw that with a deceased family member. Even the pastor was at a loss at a few points in the eulogy.

when my mom passed - i was honestly relieved. she had suffered enough with cancer to last a lifetime. was i happy she was dead - no - was i glad that her suffering had ended and that she had gone into the presence of God - Yes definitely !
if one is truly a child of God and has received His son as Savior then i personally cannot understand why anyone would want their loved ones to suffer one more second.
darryl you say the pastor was at a loss for words during the eulogy - what more does a pastor have to say than, Lord God of Heaven and earth, receive your servant this day, amen. everyone who has received the grace which God shed on us, should says what paul said ( i paraphrase ) - i'm torn between staying here for your sake or going home to the Father. imo most tear shed at funerals are for the one shedding the tears.
i hope no cries when i pass - i do hope they will find comfort in my absence.
