I knew a RC seminarian a few years back who told me that the seminary he attended was rife with homosexuality. I have heard this from other sources as well. Do we need to ask why? Can there be a much better "cover" than the male-only piresthood? Its high time the RCC obeyed the teaching of Scripture, and the example of the Eastern and Protestant Churches, and abandoned required celibacy.

Paul does point out in I Cor. 7 that singleness can be helpful at times, especially in times of distress (as was then the case.) But if it does occur, it is a gift of God, and for exceptional callings. However, there are numerous passages that talk about bishops and deacons with wives! Peter had a wife, and it didn't keep him from becoming the first pope (as THEY claim).

Some liberal Catholics are clamoring for female priests, which would be just as unscriptural as celibacy. The only solution for the RCC's dilemma is to abandon celibacy, psychologically screen their seminarians, and embrace full authority of Scripture. Since sexual deviancy and corruption can happen in any denomination, Protestants should adopt the same preventives. It appears that things are geting better in this regard, but there is still much room for improvement.

Perhaps the suits the victims continue to bring will force the needed changes in this area of doctrine and practice. But don't hold your breath in this century.
