A deadbeat with money no better than a deadbeat without -- apparently

You gotta feel for Karl Malone's, dare I say, son.
Even if the son claims it doesn't bother him, I would bet it does. Imagine meeting your wealthy father at age 18 and having him tell you that you'll have to earn your own money. Morally, this stinks.

Well, with all the horrible stories of parental malfeasance that have come out over the past few weeks, this one seems almost bland by comparison. But I do agree with you that it stinks mightily.

The tomcat model of parenting isn't a very good way to handle life, but it has been used from time immemorial. One can only hope that the son will not choose to act the way his father did. I have always striven to learn from and improve on my parents' mistakes in raising me. For this young fellow, that won't be a very high hurdle to leap over.
