I thought the phrase “Furor among Buddhists?” was a rather ironic juxtaposition, even with the question mark – something of an oxymoron, I think.
In reading the attached article it appears that the Tibetans’ marches are non-violent in nature, which is not the case with the Chicom storm troopers. Communism is a violent, top-down system which relies on brute human muscle to suppress all dissent. It denies all divine, supernatural reality, and is a variant of Humanism, which prides itself on being tolerant and liberal – except when it comes to opposing (biblical) views on abortion, perversion, and theism, et al. Then we see their true colors: the “softer” flipside of the Chicom and Societ MO of humanism; but just as oppressive in the end.
The Western variety, embodied today in socialist regimes and left-leaning entities like the Democratic Party in the US, simply substitute the imposition of their god-less, anti-biblical ideas through big-government thought control (Fairness Doctrine, hate crime legislation) and court action (Roe vs Wade) for the heavy-handed MO of Communist states. Just because it’s dressed up in the deceptive “sheep’s clothing” of the democratic process (now corrupted by media manipulation) does not mean that they are not gradually imposing their agenda. Now they have an emerging “messiah” to more effectively impose their will on the Christian opposition.
So I really feel for the Buddhists in this scenario. At least THEIR atheistic oppressor is more out-front and demonstrable than the stealth Reds on the march in this country.

History shows us many truths about the minds of revolutionaries. Scratch the surface of any revolutionary, and you'll find an aristocrat hiding within. Give a religious leader real political power, and he will become a tyrant to rival any in history. Even the Buddhist monks of Tibet have a violent history to live down.
In the long run, the controller of the political power in Tibet will not make any real difference in the lives of the people living in the villages. After all, those who own political power never give it up voluntarily.
