Guitar Hero: Christian Rock edition
Well, more accurately Guitar Hero: Christian rock knockoff edition.
Coming your way this month -- Guitar Praise.
From the ad copy:
"Grab the guitar and play along with top Christian bands! Shred those riffs or blast the bass…you add a unique sound to the solid Christian rock."
This is presumably aimed at Christian parents who want to let their kids play Guitar Hero but don't want them doing it to the devil rock of Judas Priest, The Allman Brothers, Nirvana and Queen.

Hey Nancy -
Do you purposely pick topics which are of absolutely no interest to anyone ???

If you're talking about this particular entry, you should direct your scorn at me, not Nancy.

"...but don't want them doing it to the devil rock of Judas Priest, The Allman Brothers, Nirvana and Queen." -Joe Killian
When I hear things like this I usually just let it it go, but no more. I am ashamed that there are so called believers out there (Mr. Killian, I'm assuming you are), that actually write things like this.
People with this mind-set are caught in a bubble where they believe that music other that Christian Rock is "devil music". How much more of a turn-off to non-believers must you be! You are putting them down, telling them f**k you, in a nice Christian way. It is true, that is exactly what you're doing. I've seen it an have done it but realized the error of my way and turned from that.
I have countless Atheist friends who I speak to on a friendly AND daily basis. I can relate to them being turned off and uninterested from Christians because of the attitudes people like Mr. Killian publicly demonstrate. Imagine a non-believer, who enjoys the occasional toke, getting high, tell you all about his 'high' weekend... I'd be uninterested and turned-off. Just like they are with attitudes such as mentioning 'Allman Brother's' is "devil music".
As a strong believer and witness, I enjoy listening to Ozzy Osborne, the Allman Brothers, Kill-switch engage, Jimmy Buffet, etc. And I, as a Christian, can be often offended by remarks such as those of Mr. Killian. Imagine what one can do tot he feelings towards Christians when they put them down like that.
I encourage every believer to pay more attention to the feelings and thoughts that run through our earthly brothers' who have yet to find the Lord. Don't be a distraction or a turn-off. Don't tell them right out of the blue, as if they'll listen, that what they're doing to wrong like that. You have to get to know them, become their friend, hang-out in their places and God-willing, they may just see the Lord's light shine through you.
Jesus went out into the world of sin, he didn't hide in a bubble. You can too, be like Christ!

Josh:
I like rock music and was employing sarcasm as a barb against parents who are afraid to let their children listen to it.

Mr. Killian,
Sarcasm can be hard to read at times on the internet. I now see what you're saying when put to 'sarcasm'.

I think that some music on guitar hero could have been thought about a little more before being put in there, but i live in the Bible Belt
(specifically Alabama) and i think that most of the music is acceptable and i would highly recommend some of it.

Just came across this post while searching for something else, perhaps these links would be
useful to anyone who claims that the Bible is their final authority, rather than their own will, or their heart.

As for Joshua above, souds like your relying more on your feelings than on THUS SAYETH THE LORD.
No surprise in this day of watered-down Christianity.
Ozzy Osbourne? seriously? There's a great Christian witness. I'm sure all your Atheist friends are made very comfortable when they see your witness, that this Christianity thing is only relative, and all about feelings, and doesn't have to change anything in a person's life.
How about these:
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Psa 101:3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.
1Th 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
1Pe 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
Eph 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Rock music cannot possibly fit into any of these, or countless other Biblical exhortations.
But then again, if people prefer to believe in their own concocted version of God (idolatry), instead of the God of the Bible, who makes himself clear on every topic under the sun, its no surprise that people will become lukewarm and flesh-serving.
I hope someone out there reads this and re-examines the music they pump into their mind and heart.
2Cr 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
In Christ Jesus our Lord,
Brian.

Perhaps some of you are not parents and you are thinking about Rock music as a grown up who thinks they can sift out the influences of
drugs and sex etc. and just enjoy the music.
But kids are very impressionable, why give them
a soundtrack in their head that is all about
heartbreak and drugs and bummer stuff.
Hey I don't mind if they are listening to "Don't Worry, Be happy" but sometimes when listening to a song that you listened to before having kids you find yourself singing outloud something opposite of what you believe. Don't criticize parents for wanting to put positive messages in front of the kids. Let's remember how drugs and depression led Kurt Cobain to take his own life.. not exactly a role model. To bbe so cowardly and leave his two year old son without a dad. It does matter who our kids listen to over and over again. And it does matter who they emulate.
