LifeWay pulls magazine featuring women pastors

Sheryl Brady, the 48-year-old pastor of The River Church, was featured among four other female pastors on the cover of Gospel Today, a Christian lifestyle publication based in Atlanta. The article, titled "Women Pastors: Breaking the Glass Ceiling," was pulled from the shelves of LifeWay Christian stores because it upset the owner -- the Southern Baptist Convention.

The convention believes the position of pastor is reserved for men.

Praise the Lord for the Southern Baptist Convention! Praise the Lord for them staying true to the word of God. Amen. God gave His word about the place of the woman in several places (e.g., Gen 3:16, Titus 2, I Tim 2:9-15, I Corin 14:33-35, I Peter 3 to name a few). According to His word it is impossible, according to God's (the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Moses - not the god of this world) for a woman to be the husband of one wife...it is time people stop adding and taking away from the word of God. Revelations 22:18-21 says it plainly. Amen.

Shame on lifeway. I've a woman pastor and can tell you that she's easily the best pastor/preacher that I've ever heard. She's a servant of God and shame on Lifeway for being ashamed of God's servants!

I hope the Lifeway and the SBC pull all of the pentecostal magazines from their shelves as well.

I'm an atheist but would have purchased the magazine if the ladies had been featured in a Playboy like centerfold -

Shame on the SBC for disobeying Christ, Who has commanded that we don't prevent anyone from performing miracles in His Name. Leading someone to the Lord is a miracle. These women are suffering persecution for doing God's will. For those who hate our Wonderful Gospel if it comes from the lips of a female vessel of God, I think they should study their Bibles more and their prejudices less. The elect lady in I John was female. The first evangelists were all women. Deborah led men. Jael killed a king. The Old Testament is full of prophetesses. Priscilla taught men and was mentioned ahead of her husband as a teacher, suggesting she was more active in the teaching ministry than her husband. God's Holy Spirit gives authority, not being a male. Nowhere in Scripture are men told to assume authority over their wives or other women. THey are told to serve their wives as Christ served the church. Wives are told to submit to their husbands ONLY, not every man in the congregation. So the Timothy verse is referring only to husbands and wives in regards to authority. Every man doesn't have authority over every woman and we are ALL told to submit to one another in love. I thank God for those women who preach the gospel against all that persecution from brothers and sisters.

Gotta say, I have been intrigued by this subject and have been doing some digging myself into both sides of the issue.

Truthfully, I believe God to be a God of his word literally. Although I think firstly that women are more than capable of being effective and worthy pastors, most likely better than average... I also know My God knows what he's doing. Men have a tendency to be lazy. If given the opportunity, many will gladly pass the spiritual leadership role to their wives in exchange for the remote.... (sorry, but true)... By forcing the issue, God makes a system of necessity and accountability for many men that might otherwise pass the buck. I don't pretend to know God's heart, but let me just ask.... where was Adam while Eve was making the spiritual decisions for the fam?

I don't believe that there is an idol word written in the book (Bible). On that point in Acts 10:34-35 Peter makes the statement, "Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.". Which basicly means God chooses who He wants to use to deliver his message. By not accepting some due to their gender, their past, or demonization beliefs is not rejecting them as an individual, but rejecting God. If God will use a donkey to deliver a word to Balaam (Numbers 22:20-30), then why can't He use woman. The decision of the Southern Baptist Convention is dangerous one, this places a woman preach below animals.

The donkey on spoken once!
Remember the angel of the Lord told Ba'laam to preach the word not the donkey. The donkey only spoken after being beaten by ba'laam. You are adding to justified today society.

Number 22: 35
And the angel of the Lord said unto Ba'laam, Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shall speak. So Ba'laam went with the princes of ba'lak.
This is what the Word said. Ba'laam the man spoke the Word.
We got to stop adding and making doctrine to justified unbiblical truth. God is not pleased about this. Be careful with the Holy Word of God.
Timothy chapter 2 & 3 makes it clear for the church of Christ. This word is to be obeyed not change for gender revolution or justification.
