I expect that the Catholic leaders who are so keen on making their parishioners their voting slaves have no clue that they're driving a lot of folks out of their church. Boiling down the church membership to have only pure, docile fanaticism is not going to result in a happy future for the church long-term. Too bad for them, they will only end up learning this the hard way.

Time to begin revoking tax-exempt status for some local places of worship!

Consider what the Catholic Church claims, though (and I don't agree with them). It claims to be the fullest expression of the truth of God and to offer infallible guidance in matters of faith and morals. Saying you belong to this church implies agreeing with these teachings. If you don't, why stay in it? The honest thing to do would be to look for another church more in harmony with your views. Since the Catholic Church considers abortion a serious sin, and voting for a pro-abortion candidate to be aiding and abetting this evil, they have every right, considering their authoritative structure, to expect their members, who freely choose to affiliate with them, to comply.
