It's sad that people are so touchy about how other people refer to the Winter Festivities (otherwise known as the Return of Mithras). Aren't we always being lectured about tolerance? Wouldn't it be nice if the people who are always demanding tolerance from others practiced it themselves? Maybe we would discover the real "real reason for the season." Why can't we share people's joy in whatever way they choose to celebrate, and let the poor, overworked store clerks wish people whatever they want? If someone wants to wish me a happy Chanukah/Kwanzaa/Solstice/Christmas, I am grateful for the good wishes, which never seem plentiful enough in this grouchy old world. So in that spirit, I would like to wish everyone a joyous Feast of Sol Invictus.

I know a car dealer that sold a car because the sign read Merry Christmas. I passed on a mirco wave oven, because they sold holiday trees.
Maybe we shold cancel, Chirtmas and let state and federal workers, WORK.

It's unfortunate that this is even an issue. As a Jew, I don't mind wishing my Christian friends a Merry Christmas, because I do indeed hope that they have one. It's nice when Christians wish me a Happy Hanukkah, but that doesn't happen often.
But that's the personal level. When it comes to the business world, you have to feel for retailers who get slammed both ways. To me, it's reasonable for a store to advertise its "holiday" sales, but it's unreasonable for a clerk not to wish Merry Christmas in response to a customer.

I find it rather a sad thing when every year a small bunch of Christians who wish for the world to revolve around their religion tries to make everyone around them miserable because they don't bow down and follow THEIR orders on how to greet people during the month of December.
If you want to hear "Merry Christmas" or nothing, I'd just as soon you get "nothing." I'll greet people who are pleasant in whatever way I please, thanks.
