Muslim family grounded after "safety" talk

I'm still surprised when these stories are told.

A number of atheists and non-religious organizations want Barack Obama's inauguration ceremony to leave out all references to God and religion

The words "so help me God" are not in the oath for the office of president that is written in the Constitution -- has any president taken his oath using just the words specified in that godless document?

And yes, there's a lawsuit over God and religion and Obama's swearing in ceremony.

Library plans to collect sermons, speeches

The folks at the American Folklife Center of the Library of Congress are soliciting churches, synagogues, mosques and others for copies of sermons or passionate speeches that focus on the significance of the Jan. 20 inauguration of Barack Obama as the country's first black president.

The Folklife Center is looking for both video and audio clips, all to be preserved in a public collection that includes interviews after Pearl Harbor and the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

"'If a historian asks 'How did Americans react to Obama's inauguration,' we'll have immediate responses to this powerful event,"' said David A. Taylor, head of research and programs at the American Folklife Center.

A&T's new coach -- and the choir boys

Some of you might remember A&T's new football coach from the mean tenors once found on the A&T football team, which Alonzo Lee cultivated as an assistant coach a few years ago:

Genesis Baptist Church has seen its share of choirs. But nothing quite like the visitors rising from the congregation last Sunday. The muscular young men, clad in blue-and-gold A&T jerseys, sang their way from the pews to the choir stand, stomping and clapping to the old gospel hymn "Trouble in My Way."

"I know what they're thinking - ''What's up with the jerseys? Is this a joke?'"' said Keir Thomas, a sophomore strong safety from Winston-Salem.

Does Karen speak for you, too?

Or, do you have another viewpoint:

And so it happened again the other day. A fellow parent asked me why we go to church on Sunday when you can pray just as easily at home and be just as close to God outside of church as inside. And I get it.

Making it visual:You are not alone

A controversial new billboard is slated to show up in spots around the country in the next few days.
It will carry a brief message emblazoned on a background of a blue cloud-filled sky: "Don't
Believe in God? You Are Not Alone."
"This billboard is unlike any that has ever appeared in South Carolina," declared Herb Silverman, vice president of the Secular Humanists of the Lowcountry. "We expect it to generate a mix of reactions from surprise, curiosity, and even uplift."

Dropping the prayer?

Readers of The Indianapolis Star woke up to some changes in their newspaper this morning. The Business section was wrapped into the A section. TV listings and classified ads were tucked into a new Extra section. But the thing generating most reader complaints has been the decision by the Star to drop the Prayer from page A2.

Some couples are putting off kids, because of the shaky economy.
This apparently single mother of six was somehow able to get fertility treatment, which led to single mother of six plus eight-- which left some asking, "What do you suggest she should have done?"
