Heaven, forbid?

Billy Graham's organization is laying off 55 people, or 10 percent of its staff. All eligible employees will receive severance packages as well as outplacement and spiritual counseling, reports the Charlotte Business Journal.

In certain ways, I can agree with you buz. It seems as if Nancy has been asleep at the wheel for quite some time. This is a sad testament to the N & R. Are the "powers that be" at the N & R reading this? I hope so and hope to see some aspect of change!

Should everyone in this particular organization have taken a pay cut so that everyone could have kept a job? There really are very few jobs available out there--no matter how much outplacement or spiritual counseling is made available. Have you looked at the want ads recently?

No job essentially means no health insurance. No job means foreclosure on your home. These days when people lose jobs, they lose everything.

I think I know why Nancy posted this.

I can answer why I posted it: This blog is about faith, spirituality, and morality, in a broad stroke. Sometimes, that's writing about the Pope on YouTube, and sometimes it's about Hindus upset because of a movie that spoofs aspects of their faith. Other times it's about a gay bishop being turned away from a meeting of his peers. That Billy Graham's signature organization has fallen on hard times and has to layoff like secular businesses is something I think would be of interest to Christians and others. I also think the detail about the spiritual counseling is something other businesses might not necessarily do. I do appreciate, however, that everyone does not think like me.

Thanks Nancy.

I think this post has a lot to say about certain biblical promises like "seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all the rest will be added unto thee"; not to mention "be anxious about nothing." Did God forget to honor these promises? It's embarrassing that a Christian organization, living by faith that God will provide for their needs, has to lay off 10% of its staff. How can the rest preach with conviction that God will care for those who trust in him?

kuranes,
Satan had a way of misquoting scripture also.

Kuranes said:

In what way, O Buz, is my post a "misquoting of scripture" (other than the obvious one that you disagree with it)? Did Jesus not intend for his people to live by these statements? If not, why make them? Do you not believe that Jesus is God, and that his commandments, such as the ones I quoted, carry divine authority and are meant to be obeyed? Did Jesus not say, "if you love me, you will keep my commandments" (John 14:15)? Or is that a case of John "misquoting" Jesus? Enlighten me, O wise one: in what way is "be anxious over nothing" irrelevant to Christians who have just been laid off?
