History's worst tragedies? It's their fault...

One of the most shocking (and most pathetic) things about religious extremists of all stripes is the way in which they attempt to blame some of the world's worst tragedies on their ideological enemies, no matter how ridiculous the assertion.

Whether it's Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson blaming Hurricane Katrina and 9/11 on the wickedness of lesbians and the ACLU, extremist Muslims blaming Jews, Christians and the West for all of the problems of the Middle East or believers of all sorts telling you that Hitler, Mao and Stalin's crimes can be laid at the feet of atheism -- it's a weak and disgusting practice.

Now -- the Scientologists explain how the Holocaust and 9/11 can be blamed on Psychiatry.

Scientologists Try to Explain how Psychiatrists caused 9/11 and the Holocaust from Chris Doyle on Vimeo.

How Beck, Tom Cruise and John Travolta can listen to this and stay on board is just beyond me.

Well, the $cientologists have always had this "thing" about shrinks, Joe. Remember Cruise carrying on about knowing "all about the history of psychiatry"? I expect it all rolls back to Hubbard being told he was off his rocker. Which was only the truth, if you ask me.

But regarding these nuts blaming everything they can on their favorite enemies, I agree that it fits in with the familiar old pattern of demonizing others in an attempt to make one "look better." You'd think humanity would have figured out something better to do with their time.

Not everyone has to embrace psychiatry to the degree that, say, Woody Allen has.

But I think blaming them for the holocaust and 9/11 is a little far, even for Scientologists.

But, you know, obviously it's not.

Yeah, even newspaper dudes bash all those "other" critical folks for their put-downs, not seeing in the morror that they are playing the old one-up-man-ship game themselves. You know, all THOSE relgious nut jobs. Of course, humanists and atheists were never included in the ideological bashers becuase they are right, and whatever dissing they do is AOK.

It's always all about you, isn't it, Nikos? LOL

O Please, Nam, give me a break!!!!!

Nikos can bash the atheists for their one-upmanship, but when he stigmatizes them as crypto-communists and the Source of All Evil and Satanic Godlessness, he is not demonizing his opponents at all, is he? Just heroically speaking the Plain Truth. Want to know an amusing parlor game? Get on the mailing lists of two ideologically opposed groups, one humanist and one evangelical, and compare their fundraising letters. They are almost identical in tone; both warn against an imminent threat to morality, freedom, and American values which can only be averted by sending as much as you can afford to us, the defenders of goodness and truth, right away! All you have to do is switch the names of the heroes and the villains, and the letters are interchangeable. And however Nikos might point a finger at the atheists (as though they think as monolithically as his crowd), there are still three fingers pointing back at him.
