Hey, stranger!
This morning, heading in to work at the hospital, I sat at a traffic light behind a pickup in which a man sat in the bed. He had his hood pulled up tight around his face, and he was turned backward in the bed, which means he was looking straight at me. He caught my eye and pulled his hood back enough to grin at me -- then did so a couple more times when I laughed.
Thank you, stranger, for starting my day with a smile.

Opportunities to cheer up strangers are somewhat rare these days. Eye contact happens almost not at all, that I can recall. But very rarely, I have had the chance to share a feeling of happiness or take a moment to add a little light-heartedness to the everyday goings-on. It may not solve any of life's "big problems," be it helps make life a little less dreary. And that helps, even if only for a little while.
