There were so many bus loads of people -- people from all over the world assembled at the baptismal site on the Jordan River to be baptized. A look at the facial expressions of my brothers and sisters who were dressed in their crisp, white baptismal gowns gave me the feeling that any concerns outside of this ceremony were of little importance.
I believe their hearts were burning with thanksgiving and their souls were just as happy as mine for 'the baptism' – for you see, I too was a part of this. I was rededicating my baptism today in the Jordan River. Reverend Howard Chubbs, Reverend Mark Brainerd and Reverend Charles Ingram performed the baptismal service for more than a dozen members of our group including a rededication for themselves.
The love and fellowship expressed and felt by our entire group -- both Christians and Jewish -- ‘Down by The River’ was simply overwhelming. As a matter of fact, all of the activities of the day, for me, were overwhelming.
Imaging starting your day, after breakfast: Cruising the Sea of Galilee, pausing for reflection and meditation – knowing that this is the site where Jesus called his disciples together, taught his disciples to fish and calmed the razing sea;
Riding on to the Mt. of The Beatitudes overlooking the Sea of Galilee – knowing that history tells us this is where Jesus delivered the 'Sermon On The Mount' and; Continuing to Capernaum where Jesus and Peter lived together and; Moving on to Tabgha where Jesus performed 'the miracle of the 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes'.
Overwhelming? Biblical history is very much alive and well with my soul today. How blessed I am to be fellowshipping with Christians and Jewish in the land we each call 'holy.'

I can understand how she feels. I felt the same connection to history in walking among the stones of Stonehenge in England, and visiting the tomb of Isaac Newton in Westminster Abby. Though the images that those places bring to mind aren't perhaps as grand as considering the place where your god once trod, at least one has a bit more certainty that the history connected to them are more reliable.
