Should she be applauded for her honesty?
The Miss California controversy won't go away and is still very much in the news -- after an openly-gay judge at the beauty pageant last weekend asked if every state should legalize same-sex marriage, and she said no. Conservative Christians say they finally have a public figure to embrace.
Would you prefer to know where people stand?
What's really interesting is the aspect that she could sue -- I mean, that judge did say she had been the front runner and that he gave her a zero based on her answer.

I find this whole thing unbelieveable!!! Had her answer been yes, this would have been a "non news worthy" item. I think she should be awarded a medal, especially from those of us who believe the same way she does. Marriage is one man and one woman - end of discussion.

The problem with her answer was that she started out one way and switched mid-way through it. Her answer was not well thought out. She started out saying, "Well I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land that you can choose same sex marriage or opposite marriage ..."
Only then did she stop and go the other way: "You know what, in my country and in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there. But that's how I was raised and that's how I think that it should be between a man and a woman."

She could SUE? For what? The competition she was in was purely subjective in nature. What did she expect?
On the bright side, she will now have the support and adoration of Christian talk shows around the country. She won't have to worry about losses for quite a while.
Besides, if she was honest about her opinion on the subject, she needs to be willing to accept the negative reactions of those who disagree with her. Just as she wants to exclude certain people from what they want, why should she have a "right" to compensation if she gets tossed out?

In a country where burglars can sue and win (!) for injuries sustained while breaking into someone's house, I am not surprised by any loony verdict in a lawsuit. What does appall me is that the judge gave her a zero because he disagreed with her opinion. Maybe it wasn't well expressed, but come on -- it's a beauty contest, for crying out loud. I doubt that "Wit and Wisdom of Beauty Pageant contestants" would win any prizes for profundity or originality. But should the judges hand out sheets of approved opinions (besides "world peace," which everybody knows already) before the contest, so the ladies will know the approved sentiments? If so, then the comment section is a joke. Just do swimsuit and talent and don't pretend that you expect the contestants to think for themselves.
