Hi Lex,
I can't say enough good things about the Quit Now program mentioned in the County website. With their help--counselors and written materials--I've been tobacco free for 2 1/2 years after 40-plus years on the weed. And the most wonderful thing is that the only real heebie-jeebies a felt were in the days leading up to my quit date. From that day forward (and with the help of all the crutches available) I have not experienced a major urge since then. Whew!
On another matter, you may already be familiar with the website healthnewsreview.org, but it's a must read for consumers as well as health reporters. It debunks a lot of the PR stuff that poses as health news--like the recent industry supported study that called for just about every person on the planet to take statin drugs to prevent heart attacks and strokes, and oh-by-the-way, the researchers are major stake-holders in the kit that tests for the sneaky protein that is the really truly cause of heart-related problems. It also gives reporters guidelines on issues to address that will help cut through the hype.
Cheers,
Liz

Hi, Liz --
Congratulations on quitting. That's an accomplishment.
I do indeed read HealthNewsReview. I try to follow its guidelines in writing about research, although sometimes some of the fine points fall prey to space limitations. But it's a help to both writers and consumers, I think.
