High Point and Jamestown housing report

Every quarter, the Greensboro Regional Realtors Association posts housing statistics for High Point and Jamestown (combined). The first quarter, which ended in March, indicates that 264 homes were sold in High Point and Jamestown, up 10 percent over the first quarter of 2004.

It's not as many homes as were sold in the fourth quarter of 2004, but overall, there's been an upward trend, at least since 2003.

But wait a minute...I thought everyone was moving OUT of High Point. That's what several comments on my blog have indicated...

Anyway, here's the link to the first quarter 2005 report. I'm sure some folks will be able to find statistics that would seem to indicate High Point is, in fact, going to the dogs:

Poo on you Justin,

You open a blog and invite comments from those from N. High Point and Jamestown and then try to tell them WHAT to talk about?

Wake up young man. The talk around town is GRIER and the CRAPPY schools. And YES, many are moving. My neighborhood has a RECORD number of homes for sale. Come drive through any day. It's called Jamesford Meadows.

I'm sorry that you don't want to hear our rants. But you're the one who invited "your neighbors" comments. Either "love thy neighbor" AND thy neighbor's comments or close down the blog.

It's funny that those who don't have kids in school right now think that these current issues don't affect them. You can't wish away the ill-feelings of your neighbors.

So, what do you want to talk about? The weather?
Get real Justin. Your day in Guilford County schools will be here before you know it.

Thanks for the compliment. I'm 35. I WISH I were still a "young man."

Then that'll put you at about age 50 when you'll be fighting for a quality High School--good luck.

Also, your arrogance towards this issue is a little immature for someone of your age.

I guess that means Justin is not springing for the margueritas this year.

So much for how to make friends and influence people.

See you all at the big event!

Justin, I do not know who Lynn is but I have to echo her comments about many homes up for sale in the old SW district neighborhoods.

In the statistics link you provided it would be interesting to know how many of the buyers were couples with children and couples without children. For example I have some friends whose youngest child just graduated from Ragsdale last year. They were able to "buy-up" in Jamesford Meadows because they found a seller looking to dump their house and get out of the High Point school district.

No where in these statistics does it indicate who took a haircut and why.

Justin, by the way people cannot be moving out of High Point until their homes actually sell. I think a fairer comment for you to make would be after you study the homes currently for sale up and down the Skeet Club Road corridor and see how long they are staying on the market this Spring compared to the Spring of 2003.

Our family is not going to move, not because we are enamored with the school situation, but because we are fortunate enough to have our home paid for and do not want to have to deal with a mortgage.

In our situation, do you know what is cheaper than a mortgage payment? Try tuition at a private school. Since we only have 1 child that is an expense that will only last for 4 years. So I just answered your question from a prior post, what to do in Jamestown and North High Point? Look for education alternatives for your children. Sit by the phone, check the mailbox, check the e-mail, to see if they have been accepted yet.

Buckmtn,

I hope you have found an education alternative that matches well with your child. I find myself saying "I am so sorry" to families that are dealing with the forced choice that is offered in High Point--likes it's my fault or something--but, if you are in that situation, I really do feel your pain. I am your "neighbor" and I really do hear you, and I really am sorry.

One of the MANY homes for sale in my neighborhood (the former Southwest District) is owned by the current Assistant Principal at Page High School. He's not just down-sizing, he's really "gettin' outta here." Why? It's not my business, but one wonders...

The house looks GORGEOUS and I would recommend anyone interested to come on over--But, beware--when you look at the listing it doesn't list a high school. It just says, "Contact School Board." It might as well say, "Run for your Life!"

You forgot to mention about the ever declining value of real estate in North High Point and Jamestown thanks to the "Contact School Board" listings. Sales might have been up but prices are down, down, down.

Three years ago there was a woman new to the area. She put out flyers in Jamesford Meadows begging to buy a home there. She found one and sunk about $35,000 into remodeling.

Now you can count the for sale signs that grow each day as you drive down the main street.
