On Target

So a while back one of you wonderful readers posted a comment about the possibility of the Target store at Oak Hollow Mall closing. I promised to look into it, and I have. Sort of.

As far as I know, the rumor is false. But there's a big piece missing in the information gathering process.

You see, sometimes it's a bit difficult to get those big corporations on the phone and let you know what is going on. I've been buggin' 'em regularly, but haven't gotten through yet.

UPDATE: Target spokeswoman Aimee Sands called me this morning and, drumroll please, the rumor is false.

"No, we don't have any plans to close the store at this time," Sands said.

So there you go.

In the meantime, Oak Hollow Mall General Manager David Pierson told me last week that there is no truth to the rumor.

"No, we're not losing one of our anchors out there," Pierson said of the stores on the lots along Mall Loop Road. A caveat though, the mall doesn't own most of those lots.

The Wachovia branch out there is closing and there will be more on that in Friday's High Points column.

Jonathan,

You're going about your investigation all wrong. Just give Terry Grier a call. He knows everything. He can tell you if, who, when, where, why and what about any topic, including Target stores. We as a community are so fortunate to have this source of knowledge at our disposal. Please use him more readily.

It could be the new High Point alternative school location instead of nixed idea to use Oak Hollow.

That Target store has several options for High Point. It could be a distribution point for Fantasia's book or it good be the home to the largest Middle College in the county. Why Fantasia could be an honorary graduate.

She could git up on stage and go "Hey Bobo". Hang on I think Mayor Becky still has her gown from the big party at the colisium last year. Hopefully Bruce Davis didn't spill anything on it.

WHAT???!!!!

High Point NOT on Newsweek's "Best Communities for Young People" list??--(said with sarcastic dismay...)

The author of the list says, "With her list, Sallee hopes to encourage towns and cities to take better care of their children".

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!THAT's a friggin' JOKE in High POINT! High Point could give a rat's ass about its children! Just ask Fantasia and the kids that have to get a lotto ticket to go to High School.

WAKE UP HIGH POINT! ONLY by addressing the failing education that the Guilford County School system is offering to our children, will you find the secret to a successful city.

Oh, and just to share...

I have done my own investigation since the N&R seems to only care to cover Greensboro politics. I have met BOTH candidates running for the High Point council seat in Ward 6--NORTH High Point/Jamestown..

I'm happy to say that ONE candidate is VERY vocal and concerned about the sorry state of our schools.

Mr. Tim Brown. He CARES and has made this issue a priority in his campaign.

Kudo to you Mr. Brown for realizing that a city cannot function with unhappy, under-educated children and families.

YOU HAVE MY VOTE!

..maybe my kids will lurn to reed after all!

Posted by: i cain't reed at October 7, 2005 9:41 AM

See Tim Brown.

Go, go, go.

Vote for Tim.

Tim can help the children of High Point.

Tim knows schools are important.

Vote for Tim.

Vote, vote, vote.

Funny, funny Becky.

I see that Wachovia Bank is leaving Oak Hollow Mall. Another one "bites the dust". Another location for an alternative school.

Posted by: dad at October 7, 2005 2:54 PM

dad,

Go Dad go! Dad has a good idea. Dad has a damn good idea. Go Dad go!

You're on to something...a school with a vault door already installed, bullet proof windows, AND an emergency alarm already in place!! THAT would make an excellent learning environment for some pretty special kids in the system.

That sure is a good Dad. Dick, see Dad's good idea? Sally, see Dad's good idea? Dad is pretty good. Go Dad go.

While I'm enjoying the sarcasm Dad and Jane I have to burst your bubble.

It's my understanding from Mr. Pierson that another bank intends to move in there, but he wasn't sure which one. And the folks at Wachovia were checking for me to figure out if they owned or leased the building, but I haven't heard back.

Oh, and I Cain't Read, we're not ignoring High Point politics by any means. A couple of other reporters have been working on several election stories that should be coming out soon. So keep your eyes out.

Thanks again for reading folks.

Sarcasm? Jonathan they ARE looking for sites for alternative schools in High Point. Maybe this would be too small. But Jane might be on to something.

Funny, funny, Jane.

See Jane go.

Jonathan, thanks for the tip on the elections stories.

We will read, read, read.

Posted by: dad at October 7, 2005 5:05 PM

Dad, that was my thought, that a bank branch is too small for an alternative school. Maybe if it only had 10-15 kids.

Posted by: Jonathan Jones at October 7, 2005 5:09 PM

Jonathon,

The good superintendent claims that he does indeed have class sizes down to 15. So plopping a school right down in the middle of a bank would be putting his money where his mouth is! HA! Funny Money pun!

Jane made a punny! See's Jane's punny! She's funny.

But what's NOT funny is that Grier seriously has looked into schools in any empty building that he can get his eyeballs on. Maybe this is all new to you since yer the new kid on the block, but this man won't stop at anything. To hell with the schools that we already have, he's hell bent on inventing new "plans" with or without public approval.

So Dad does indeed know what he's talking about.

Dad, tell Grier to go. Tell him to go, go, go.

Dear Jonathan,

What you need to understand what is going on here is what happens to women who live on DOTTIE'S WHITE KID FARM, (otherwise known as N. High point and Jamestown), that is to say women who have served as nothing more than vessels to carry white children to term, suffer and sweat through their labor, then raise them for fourteen years unitl they are ripe and ready to be spirited off to the land of Emerywood to serve the "real" people that count -dottie and her cohorts, who, in order to preserve their fantasy that it is 1965, have developed an unquenchable thirst for the fair children produced here. That is why pretending that N. High Point and Jamestown is some kind of free-standing place that deserves it's own website makes them laugh and write outrageous things. forgive them. And also us, the seed donors.

For the glory of emerywood. forever and ever, amen.

Only the whitest and the brightest will be picked.

You must pass the Emorywood QC team.

George Orwelle would be proud.

Proud, proud, proud.

Go, go, go.

Leave Pleasantville.

Go, go, go

To the Land of Emorywood

That's "Orwell" Puff. Where the hell would I go? I'm black and white?

Posted by: Spot at October 7, 2005 10:56 PM

Thank you Spot. I learned to read at the Feline School for Kittys in High Point. It is hard to think after the long ride in the doggy patty wagon. They don't teach spelling either.

That is a tough question. You could not be in a lottery. We would have to do a coin toss.

Maybe you could go to doggy school in Greensboro. They take neighborhood dogs there.

Go, go, go.

Go to Greensboro.

See, see, see.

See all the different dogs and cats who get to have a neighborhood school.
