More Deep River shops on the way
So the folks at Blue Ridge Cos. announced some new tenants today for Palladium at Deep River and Palladium Commons.
Drum-roll please, here you go:
Triad Day Spa -- expected to open Dec. 1
PJ's Coffee and Wine Bar -- Late November
Moe's Southwest Grill -- By the end of the year.
Moe's is the only one I've ever been too. There are two stores in Greensboro, one on West Wendover and one on Battleground, but the one I visited was in Durham a while back. If you've never been, it's a quick burrito counter kind of place, similar to Chipotle or Qdoba's.
Triad Day Spa will offer massages, facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing and artificial nails, according to Blue Ridge Cos.
PJ's Coffee and Wine Bar has a variety of coffees, wines, pastries and desserts. This is its first Triad location and its parent company is the same one that handles Moe's franchising.

Jonathan,
Did you really mean to say "its parent company"?
I think your predecessor is now an English teacher, in case you need him.

PP,
Jonathan is heading the "North High Point/Jamestown" blog...what's that tell ya?
Hey, what do you do for a living? "Uh, well, I write an entry about once a week in this here blog column over at this little paper in the sticks of NC".
"Oh, so you live in a trailer and you don't vote, right?"
"Hey, how'd you know that?"
"AND you got kicked outta Purdue, right?"
"Hey, have you bin talkin' to my momma?"

Wow Another P, you just can't get over my leaving your alma mater for a better university can you?
And how'd you know about the trailer? Are you stalking me?
Pet Peeve, thanks for pointing that out. I admit that apostrophes are my biggest grammatical hang-up, and I'm sorry to hit one of your sour notes. That's the danger of these blogs, no one is looking over my shoulder to point out the mistakes I don't see.

For all those peevish folk out there:
It's is a contraction for it is or it has.
Its is the possessive form of the neuter pronoun: The company lost its assets.

And I forgot to mention that I fixed the mistake Pet Peeve. So if other folks are wondering what we're talking about, I had the contraction when I should have had the possessive pronoun.

Jonathan,
Thanks.
Jennifer - thanks - now how do we teach this basic grammatical rule to the children of Guilford County?
Posted by: pet peeve at November 10, 2005 8:56 AM
Pet Peeve, I'm not sure many schools spend much time on grammar anymore. I say that without knowing what the curricula of our local schools look like. Instead, I draw from my own experience.
I taught English as an adjunct at a community college in Maryland for a few semesters. (I know that probably makes my previous misstep even more egregious.) Most of those students came in without the slightest understanding of grammar, so I spent the first 15 minutes of every class going over one basic rule or another.
And from my own education, which isn't too stale, I didn't have a grammar lesson after the seventh grade. I know we didn't get any in high school. Sometimes when I look back on the papers I wrote then, I want to cringe. In order to pass my college's spelling and grammar test I largely had to teach myself the basics. Even then, I still have trouble with misplaced apostrophes.

I thought we were talking about the new businesses opening up in the Palladium center.
Let me address two of these:
Moes? Can someone explain why another Moe's is needed on Wendover when a brand new one went up just a few blocks.
Coffee bar? Can someone explain why Jamestown needs a new coffee bar when Kaffini's on Main Street stands empty most of the day?
I don't even want to mention the fact that the centerpiece of this shopping center is a movie theater. As anyone who lives in High Point of Greensboro is probably aware, there is a movie theater at Oak Hollow Mall just down the street, one (at least) on Main Street and another right down the road off Stanley in Greensboro.
Overdevelopment and Sprawl? I think so.

Three phrases should be among the most common in our daily usage. They are: Thank you, I am grateful and I appreciate.
