Moving faster

So in case you missed it, the speed limit on US 311 Bypass is about to go up, up, up. Well, maybe only one up. It's moving to 60 mph, which is the speed limit for which the road was designed.

It should happen within the next few weeks, it's just a matter of when the DOT can put the signs up.

And I've wanted to post this on the blog for a few days, but had to wait until the story actually ran in the paper.

Yea!!!! now i can drive 60, does anyone really obey the posted speed limit. If so god bless them most of the time everyone runs 65-75 mph until they see the po-po and then they slam on brakes. This road should have been raised to at least 65 mph, i have been on country roads where the posted speed limit was 55, 60 is a joke. Just my $.02 anyway.

I hear ya Tim. I'm one of those people who typically drives 5 to 9 mph above the posted limit on highways. And I'm used to getting passed.

DOT says the road was designed for a 60 mph speed limit, so that's what it gets. It's not quite the same thing as those long stretches of flat highway down east were I expect the design standard was even higher than the 70 mph posted limit. I don't know that for a fact though. I just remember in college, when I took some civil engineering courses, learning that much of the interstate system was designed for 80 mph travel.
