Bypass revisited
It looks like the Jamestown Bypass might be coming back up for discussion soon.
Keith Volz plans to press the issue in January. I'm curious what Jamestown folks think.
The plan is starting to get far enough along that major changes will be difficult. But the NCDOT says they can definitely look at Volz' concerns. The sooner the town brings them, the better.

I send my kids to a private school. Can I get a refund on my taxes?

Does Jamestown have any real authority to do anything to change what will happen with this road?

Truth, they don't have authority. That rests with the N.C.DOT and the state Board of Transportation. But they can have influence. Road budgets throughout the state are extremely tight.
There is concern among transporation planners that any serious opposition to a new road, such as a formal resolution from the town of Jamestown opposing it, could be enough to sway the Board of Transportation to move the money from one project to another.
I don't think that's going to happen here because I don't think you'll see anything such as a formal resolution outright opposing the road. But what do I know, I'm just an observer.
Andy, I think you know the answer to your own question. But if government were in the business of giving back taxes for reasons like that, well, I'd be the first in line. Hey, I'm childless.

We think you should do a strand about the GANG PROBLEMS at Central and the other High Point High Schools. We think you should tell about all the police that had to come to school for two days to maintain control. We think this is what the public wants to know about. The truth! We think you should call the mayor and her task force and ask her what they are doing to keep the the GANGS out of our schools.

WWTK, I'll tell you what little I know about it, and keep in mind that it's second hand information.
There was a sizable police presence at Central on Friday. We sent a reporter down there and she reported back that they were present as a pre-emptive move. There had been a fight in the morning and there was some concern that it might flair up again. I have no idea if it was or wasn't gang-related since I didn't have anything to do with reporting it. I haven't heard anything else about police at Andrews or Southwest lately, or even at Central on a different day. If you've got some info you'd like to share, please feel free to e-mail me at jjones@news-record.com

Jonathan:
Police were at Southwest on Friday.
MANY of them.
Last infor that came through: This was not gang related.
This was reported as "prank related".
What kind of prank would bring that many cops???
We Still Want To Know. You are the reporter.

WWTK, I'm looking into it this morning and as soon as I get a solid answer, I'll let you know.

What kind of a reporter doesn't even give mention to the Jamestown Christmas parade that took place yesterday afternoon?
The Highlight of the parade this year though, was not Santa, but the kindly person throwing out "Honk if you've been Grier-ended" magnets!
Thanks! Now that's the TRUE meaning of Christmas!

Aww, Thankful, you're always so mad at me. It's such a shame.
I missed the Christmas parade because of family obligations, but I'm sure it was a good time. We did a short preview of it in Saturday's paper.
