More growth into Davidson
High Point's expansion into Davidson County looks like its going to continue a bit this week.
The Planning Commission will be considering a 128-home, 64-acre annexation and development request off Chestnut Drive. The property is right on the edge of the Guilford-Davidson county line.
If you're interested in attending:
What: High Point Planning and Zoning Comission
When: 6 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 24)
Where: City Council Chambers, 211 S. Hamilton St.

So what lucky school system will get the kids from this proposed development? Guilford Puke County or Davidson county?

Viv, the kids from this neighborhood would go to Davidson County schools -- Ledford middle and high and Friendship Elementary School. Both the middle and high school are already over capacity and several developments have been approved in N.E. Davidson that have yet to be built. So they're looking at some serious crowding issues in the near future.

Am I the only one to see the irony in this?
Just across the line in Davidson County the schools are bursting at the seams due to High Point expanding into that county.
Here in Guilford County, you can't fill the seats in the High Point schools closest to the county line.
The big question is: Why can't the Board and Grier understand what's going on??

Numbers, you're not the only one noticing.

Jonathan,
Sounds like an idea for a story in Sunday's paper. Seriously. Please do it.

It's in the hopper Quest. If I can ever get out of transportation and noise meetings to do it :)

Jonathan,
Thanks. It would be good if you could do it before the board completes redistricting. This would be good information for them to study.

The real story will be when that area of Davidson county builds themselves a new school! Hopefully Guilford County School Reps will be standing by to see just exactly how that's done.
I doubt you'll see Davidson county buying more buses to just shuffle all the new students around. They'll do the right thing and welcome all the former Guilford County students and build them a school.
