Redistricting
So the school board made its decision last night. I'm sure folks have lots of opinions on the new attendance lines.
We're looking for parents willing to share their thoughts for our follow up stories. If you'd like to share and are the parent of a Southwest or Andrews bound student conact Sue Schultz at 883-4422 ext. 232 or sschultz@news-record.com. Parents of kids headed to Central can contact Kory Dodd at 883-4422 ext. 241 or kdodd@news-record.com

My suggestion is that you walk the neighborhoods and talk to people effected....especially in the low income areas. Most of these residents don't blog and probably don't even know yet what is happening.
It is unfortunate that many who are so effected are not aware of the situation until its too late for them to voice an opinion.

It's a good suggestion Kay and we've got some folks who already have or are planning to do just that. I also wanted to make it easy for folks who are reading the blog to voice their opinion in the dead tree edition, if they want.

Would you like any comments from families who took their children out of public schools last year, now have the opportunity to go back to Southwest, but will not go anywhere near it?

I'm sure they'd be glad to hear from you Buck -- or someone in your situation. We're looking for a variety of opinions.

Jonathan,
Just wondered what had happened with the interviews with people in the low income neighborhoods?????
If they were published, I missed it. Could you provide a link?
Thanks so much........

Kay, all the coverage was on that first day. It's my understanding Sue Schultz went to Andrews-area neighborhoods as well as Southwest neighborhoods and Kory Dodd went to Central to talk to parents. Here was what where most of that was printed, although some probably was moved into the main story, and I'm sure some didn't make the paper for one reason or another. As for what made it in from each neighborhood or school, I'm not really sure where those interviews were done.

Thanks for checking....
It looks like once again, the real story is being ignored or covered up. Those who need an advocate and an avenue for their voice are being ignored by their representatives and the written media.
