Sadie May's
If you haven't heard yet, tomorrow will be the last day Sadie May's Ristorante in Jamestown is open for business.
We're running a feature tomorrow about folks trying to get that one last Sadie May's entree. Update: Here's a link to the story.
So I had lunch there, for the very first time, today and am quite disappointed I won't be able to return. It was excellent.
The owner's daughter said too much business has been siphoned off by the new restaurants in the Skeet Club/Wendover and Eastchester area.
Since word first started spreading two weeks ago, though, business has been crazy. Maybe a lot of folks forgot Sadie May's was there, what with all the new options in town? I talked to a few who were like me: new to the area and had it on their list of places to check out, but hadn't quite made it there yet.
I know from my own experiences in the restuarant business, 32 years is an awfully long time for one place to stay open.
Anyway, I'm sorry they're closing up shop. If you've never been or want to go one last time, they'll open tomorrow at 5 p.m. for dinner. I'd expect a long line.

I have been wondering when this post would appear. Sadie May's has been part of my life since I was a boy, and I will miss it a great deal.
Now if you want to get a scoop, report on the rumored new restaurant to open around Adams Farm with a lot of SD's staff.

Jonathan,
Well, it's been a month since my last post, which I've repeated here, and it seems things have come to pass just as I theorized. Of course, we haven't seen any of the stories I proposed in the paper... Then again, you have been busy. There were, after all, three posts last week, including the ad for free ice cream.
Again, here's the post from Feb. 2.: So, the level of reporting we get in North High Point is for our intrepid journalist is to "stick his head in" one restaurant and spend enough time at a second to discern it's crowded. Based on that, I can only imagine the tirelessness of your toil in "trying to get in touch with the McAllister's folks." You've probably had to call them once or even twice. I get tired just thinking about it.
Just a thought, but maybe it's time to delve into some real questions like whether the meager population surrounding the Palladium warrants a dozen restaurants. If the theater is doing marginal business, how can a half-dozen beer-and-burger restaurants co-exist?
How about, Has High Point's dining district shifted from Main Street to Samet Drive? Or, are area doctors concerned about the health affects of North High Pointers consuming so many chili cheese fries (along with so many beers)?
Warning, though. These could involve a little more than sticking your head in.

Patrick, thanks for the tip. This is one of those stories where putting things on the blog and reporting for the paper almost seemed counterintuitive. We heard about Sadie May's closing several weeks ago, but decided the best way to handle it was a feature right at the closing. Maybe I should've posted it here as soon as I heard, but it seems like the posts ought to match up with the stories when they can.
I've got a couple of other stories that are similar -- things I know north High Point readers would find interesting, but for one reason or another publication is delayed and I don't feel comfortable throwing them up on the blog until it's ready for the paper.
Wing Man, as I told you a month ago, a couple of the ideas you mention have merit and already were in our pipeline of things to look into. Several of them simply aren't going to happen.
And while I don't want to get too defensive, I'd like to point out that there were five posts to the blog last week, not three. In fact there were 18 in the month of February, which is more than any other month this blog has been up except May -- a point in time when two reporters were posting here regularly and the only reporting responsiblities of the reporter who was in charge of maintaining the blog were North High Point & Jamestown.
Now you've got one reporter, who also covers regional growth, development, FedEx and until last week transportation. With the moving of transportation to another reporter, I should have some more time to focus on North High Point and hopefully you'll be happier with the stories about your community.
Thanks again for reading.

Jonathan, your decision not to post or print the story makes sense. By the way, Sadie's is built on the spot where my great-great-grandfather's house stood.

I meant "post or print earlier than you did"
