Next Steps for Heart of Triad

The steering committee for the Heart of the Triad project approved the basic concepts of working with six area governments to plan growth in the area between the new Dell plant and the future FedEx hub at the Piedmont Triad International Airport last week.

So what's next?

This week, elected leaders from all six governments dined over a chicken lunch and discussed the Heart of the Triad future plans and developments.

On February 27, the steering committee will meet again to formalize a resolution to be signed by the elected leaders so the plans can move forward.

Elected leaders should have the resolutions for consideration by March.

The entire Heart of the Triad region covers 18,000 acres. The plan projects that in the next 30 years about 123,000 residents will be living in the region and there will be about 135,000 jobs.

Robbery at TJ Maxx

Police have charged two High Point men in connection with the armed robbery of the TJ Maxx on Eastchester Drive.

Police were called to the store at 265 Eastchester Drive at 6:22 p.m. on Jan. 19 after the store’s loss prevention employee witnessed two men shoplifting inside the store. The employee told police that he approached the two men when they left the store and demanded they return the stolen merchandise, said High Point police Lt. Ken Steele. The employee told police that one of the men took off running, while the other threatened to shoot him, Steele said.

Steele said the employee told police that he noticed a chrome-colored object in the man’s hand so he backed off and let the man leave.

Based on footage from the store’s video surveillance system, Steele said the police arrested two men. No weapon was found.

John Daniel Wallace, 40, of 375 Richardson Ave., was charged with larceny and given a written promise to appear in court. David Lee Sauls, 45, of 400 N. Centennial St., was charged with robbery with a firearm and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held in the Guilford County Jail in High Point in lieu of $15,000 bond.

New Year's resolution for a more interactive blog

We haven't made any promises about losing weight. We won't make any about not smoking or even about spending less money.
But we will make one about creating a more active blog for residents concerned about issues in North High Point and Jamestown.

There's been a lot of transition here at the News & Record over the last few months. But we apologize for not posting as often as we should.
We hope to use this space to interact with readers on news items big and small. From the plans for the future Heart of the Triad project to the newest hair salon or nail place that's opened up near you.
We would also like to hear from you on what news you use.
Here's an item to start us off.
The steering committee for the Heart of the Triad project will meet with elected officials from all six governments - Guilford County, Forsyth County, Greensboro, High Point, Winston-Salem and Kernersville - on Jan. 29 at the Airport Marriott located at 1 Marriott Dr. in Greensboro. The meeting will start at 11:30 a.m.
