Clamoring for Clogging

So you were thinking of going with flowers or chocolates for that special someone this Valentine's Day, but were trying to come up with something more original.

How about a night of clogging at the Valentine Hoedown held at the City Lake Park gym in Jamestown.

The Pride of Carolina Cloggers will sponsor the event on Feb. 10 from 6 to 10 p.m.

The evening will feature a mini clogging competition along with some workshops for those who want to try their hand, or feet at the activity.

Dancers are asked to make a $5 donation and spectators are asked to bring $3.

Having just driven down Main Street in Jamestown, I was horrified. The town has sacrificed it's charm and small downtown appeal for what, I'm not sure.

City Lake park is now a huge pile of dirt. The bridge is being rerouted. Huge swaths of trees beside the old Mendenhall home have been clear-cut. Straight-from-the-box townhomes have replaced stately old homes with aesthetic appeal. There's even an Advanced Auto going up. Beautiful landscaping, trees, and flowers are gone.

It looks like a disaster area.

Let's not even mention Penny road where the Retirement homes have destroyed a neighborhood, and development has almostly completely claimed the beautiful forestry and natural habitats of nearby wildlife.

I once thought Jamestown was one of the most beautiful areas of the county. It is now just plain ugly.

Shame on Jamestown's leadership for letting this happen.
