Fit to be tied
Reader Don Moore just sent me this e-mail: "I've been reading your blog from work for a while; but today I was blocked by our content filter. Did you know that your blog is considered offensive? I've attached a screen capture from Sonic Wall. Hopefully, they will change the rating."
Sure enough, the Sonic Wall report says this blog "is currently rated as Category 4 Pornography."
Well, darn. Heck. Shoot. I know that some people consider my writing and the newspaper offensive, but pornography? Perhaps it is the spam postings that my colleague Bruce Buchanan addresses over at The Chalkboard. We don't intend to limit discourse on the site and so will continue to delete the messages from sex sites and pharmaceutical products.
Sorry that you can't get to us, Don. But shouldn't you be paying attention to your work? Just joking. Please appeal the Sonic Wall ruling.
P.S. Just got this new e-mail from Don: "It's actually funny. Billy's site was marked as well. It takes around three days for Sonic Wall to review and approve. The Eden Chamber of Commerce site was tagged as well; but then with a domain of "edenchamber.com", who could blame them?
Update: Our whiz-bang interactive staff has created a system in which you will need to enter a numeric code, which will be provided, when you comment on a post. This should prevent automated robots from leaving links for drugs and porn sites. Entering the code is easy so don't let one more step stop you for wading into the discussion unless, of course, you're a drug-peddlin' pornographer.

Actually, I've tried to get my BloggingPoet.com site blocked by adding code words (references to things we don't want our children to see) to the header that content filters are supposed to pick up. It appears to be working. Thanks for pointing it out.
I did this because I prefer that the children read one of my other sites, http://www.LaureatesKids.com
I did this not because of the content on my site, but because I have links to others who write things most adults wouldn't object to reading, but wouldn't wish for their children to read.
At LaureatesKids.com there are no links to other sites that might be a problem for younger readers and there will never be any content not suited for children. I built Laureate's Kids because I noticed in my site tracking (URCHIN) that the pages containing my children's poems were the most read and I suspected that parents weren't the only one's reading them. There's also no e-mail links, no contact info except a mailing address, no comment feature where links might be added by others, and no chat feature as these are the things that get most kids in trouble.
I just hope LaureatesKids.com isn't being blocked too.

Man, if YOU are getting nailed, MY site is going to be lumped in with Pam and Tommy Lee! I can't even get listed on Greensboro 101. I COULD clean it up a little.

Why the difficulty seeing racism for what it is. I suppose you would like to suggest that the Institute of Medicine's recent report on race/racism being the leading cause in healthcare outcomes for people of color. even when the report, like this investigation, takes the controls into consideration. The mortgage lending report says that ACROSS INCOME LINES, you morons. Be careful about whose financial background you speak on. The white community is real classy about it's bad credit. They simply file for bankruptcy. I suppose bad credit vs chapter 13 is a bell curve issue. Get real, racism is alive and thriving in Greensboro! White people are the beneficiaries of a racially/economically constructed country that earned enormous gains in human capitol and know want to act as those those gains have been equalized because of OPRAH. In the words of an old friend, that's like rose petals in a cess pool.
The facts are this country suffers greater losses in white collar crimes than all of the drug/robberies combined. People like Michael Milkin, the Junk bond king on Wall st.,good old Martha Stewart who can walk right out of prison and right onto a TV set and sell sheets! White folks are so redeemable. There are more white women and children in this country on welfare.
Go read a book!
