We're getting closer
Training of our online "power users" -- those folks like Lex and Michael Fuchs, the news-record.com editor -- begins today. They are going to learn the ins and outs of our new publishing system. Why care? Because it means we're just days away from launching the new system and redesigned site.
Update: Some unexpected challenges encountered in the training, and I've been told that "days away" may be too optimistic. But soon.

Well, "days" ranges from 2 to infinity. Lest JR get your hopes up, folks, I'm in more training all next week, too. Also, just because we've finished all our training does NOT mean that all the templates, etc., we'll be using will be ready to use at that point.
But the day does indeed draw near ...

So, does this mean I can leave? :-)

Ahh yes, web development projects like any project can suffer from project management mis-steps. My guess: not enough time put into testing and training. But, that was in plan...wasn't it? ;-)

Actually, Rob, JR just got some bad info. I think the online folks and I have been pretty realistic in our planning about how long all this was going to take, which is to say at least 5 minutes later than even the most patient of our readers would be happy with.

Lex, thanks for the additional insight. Too often, in my professional life, projects went askew with changes from the users after requirements were supposedly finalized. I only let that happen once but, that once was a doozey!
That your readers are chomping at the bit is a good sign. They're interested...they care.
I know of another paper in the region that just "upgraded" and while I was happy for them it seems a large group of their readership balked. Some like change, some don't. Good luck with putting this one "to bed".
