A new hire from Georgia

We've hired Katie Reetz as a reporter in our features section. Katie, is a senior majoring in journalism and political science at the University of Georgia, reports for duty in June. She has been the editor-in-chief of the UGA student newspaper and has interned at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Daily Reflector in Greenville, N.C.

Here are some links to her work. To my fellow bloggers, don't worry about this column. She's seen the light.

What flavor of Kool-Aid are you currently serving that could cause such a quick reversal of opinion for Katie?

I took great offense to her Oreos in the basement remark. I'll have her know I drink proper Bourbon at the kitchen table whilst spreading my rumors and I never retire to my dank basement except to retrieve more.

John Robinson said:

The motivation may have been green with pictures of dead presidents. Bourbon might have worked, too, but it's against company policy to serve it on the job.

Well, Katie's good but she made an atomic typo in that Oreos column, too. Please tell her to watch her p's and q's when she comes on board.

QUOTE: "I'm just concerned about confusing the mainstream media with guys eating Oreos in their parents basement while posting tasty tidbits online."

The copy desk in the sky says parents should have an apostrophe after the S, as in ......''their parents' basement.''

Katie, don't throw away the apostrophes! They are ImPorTant. Watch the TelePrompTer!

Well, I will say one thing regarding this hire:

HOW 'BOUT THEM DAWGS!

As an alumnus of the University of Georgia and a former writer for the Red and Black, I applaud the News and Record for its decision to tap into one of the premiere journalism schools in the country for its next hire.

That, and Georgia folks are good people.

Good luck, Katie.
