Take a look at the new site
If everything goes as planned, there will be a button on our home page tomorrow labeled "sneak peak" that will lead you to a beta site of our new design. Go there. Sample stuff. Report back.
The site isn't fully navigatable yet -- it is a beta site, after all. It will go deeper, and we still getting bugs out. But we want to hear what you think before we officially launch. So use the feedback mechanism and let us know.
Tuesday update: Here's the link.

Navigable, John. The word you want is navigable. You are an editor, right?

Hmmmm...
You're supposed to say something GOOD about something before saying what you don't like.
The good: I like the increased prominence of the weather.
The bad:
1) Too many different places to navigate that compete with each other. Why is there a News tab and another News tab. Why is there a sports tab and another sports tab. What is the difference?
And what is the deal with a Money tab and a Business tab?
2) WHere did all the subsections navigation go to? I don't see where I can click to find the High Point news or the Education news.
3) Why are Obits a "marketplace" -- I realize because the newspaper makes people pay for them they seem like a marketplace, but to users, arent they news?
4) There are too many embedded scroll bars. I DONT want to scroll so much. I'd rather the ONE page be longer and just scroll on that page than have to scroll in several different TINY windows to see what I want. On every page I found 5 little scroll bar windows. UGH!
5) I had no idea what the PacMan icon was.. and am still not sure.
6) It took me forever to discover the tabs that hid different types of content. For example: the NR Exclusives, the Calendar and the Snapshot tabs.
7) The header is TOO BIG. I already know what site I am at. I typed in the URL or have it bookmarked. Could the NR be ANY larger?
8)Why does Lorraine Ahearn's podcast graphic come up under the line Advertisement? Does Lorraine get money when people listen to her Podcast? (I hope so)
9) The color scheme. Red is not good. What was the matter with green?
10) What is with the big Dell in the Triad section about midway down the page? Is that a business section for daily business news? If so, why is Dell given such prominence? It is there on EVERY page I go to. A little overboard...
As you can see there are glitches in here, but a lot of this has real usability problems. Too much hidden content (the tabs) and too much work for me (the scroll bars). Other sections I can't find at all.... Why can't things just be on the left side like on the current site?

I see what Jim's talking about concerning the tabs and the hidden content. The alternative is a deep page you have to scroll down to see everything. To me, the clincher is this: It's much easier and faster to scroll through a page. It takes more time, more clicks and more mousework to surf through tabs.

The News & Record, Greensboro, NC, suggested I visit news-record.com and click on the money tab
for complete news coverage to help overcome prob-
lems they had in their paper of 12/20 in publish-
ing stock market results of 12/19. I cannot find
the "money tab" to click on to obtain the inform-
ation.
