Welcome the Capital Beat
Reporter Mark Binker, our new correspondent in Raleigh, has taken what he learned from Inside Scoop and has started Capital Beat, a blog covering state government. "We're going to try to keep an eye on all the various doings of the state government here, including the governor and his executive agencies. And more than that, I aim to help you understand how the doings here in Cap City affect you at home there in the Triad."
Check it out. If you know Binker from his newspaper reporting, Scoop or his personal blog, you know he's got something to say.

John, this is a great idea and very much needed. I think the paper would benefit from continued enhanced coverage of state government; and the state as a whole might benefit as well because there is much to be remedied.
And by the way, all of you are doing a good job over the last month or two with coverage of state issues-- the lottery, the cigarette tax, the budget, etc. This is one area where the paper can differentiate itself from the internet, because available coverage of state issues on the web is somewhat variable. (I do suggest you consider looking at Medicaid and other state health expenditures much more closely, because the inflationary aspects of these programs places the future competitiveness of the state at risk.)
