I'd add: Carry a reporter's notebook, walk fast and look harried
Doug Fisher of Common Sense Journalism and a teacher at the University of South Carolina posts a note from a friend under the headline, "What we should teach in J-school."
Naturally, I like this one: Learn to say: "Yes boss. What can I do for you?" Then do it, unless banned by the Geneva Convention. It takes less time than fighting and then you can get back to your real job. Try not to insult anyone with the BS you put into it.
But the last one is probably the best piece of advice that I've seen ignored most often.

I would add and this can be for those in journalism or anyother position.
"It is easier to ask forgiveness than to seek permission".
In other words if it bears on you so strong to do something, write something or whatever it may be, then do it.

Hi John,
I've been trying to post on Thinking Out Loud and not a single post has appeared. Allen has some type of program that is supposed to allow him to check for malicious intent before posting. There have been no malicious statements in my posts but none have appeared in days.
Is there some bug going on there or is there a worthiness rating that must be reached before getting a post to appear.

Allen doesn't have any such program, Truth, although there are times I wish I did. :) We're not aware of any bugs or anything, but we'll check.

Thanks for the quick response. Whenever I try to post a comment, I get this message:

I've posted numerous times to Thinking Out Loud so I wouldn't fall under the first-timer category. I appreciate you checking into this.

Don't know what's causing it, but we're checking.
