It's not just Bruce Davis
A few visits to The Chalkboard and you could reasonably conclude that school superintendent Terry Grier could benefit from being a blogger just as the superintendent of Piniellas schools in Florida has. (Nice link from Blogspotting.)
Our reporters will ask Grier if he's interested. The discourse is rough and tumble at The Chalkboard, particularly if you're not a member of the Get Terry Grier Outta Here club. But that speaks to the opportunity of the blog in the first place. And maybe things would calm down a bit if he's involved in the discussion.
In any case, we'd be happy to be the host if he's willing.

You want to know why The Chalkboard is so active? Because good kids like mine are being forcibly bussed to the FIFTH or SEVENTH nearest High School.
I would like to ask you which High School (by distance) your neighborhood is assigned to? It seems the collective eiditoial staff is opposed to kids going to nearby schools, so I'm wondering if you practice what you preach? Could you ask Mr. Johnson also? I already know that Doug Clark is in the "safe zone" of High Point Central.
I also resent the way that opponents of being bussed to the FIFTH or SEVENTH nearest High School to their home have been villified by you and your editorial staff.
I would love to see a poll of what average Guilford County residents would think of their kids being put into a rigged lottery and bussed to the FIFTH or SEVENTH nearest High School to their home.

Even if Dr. Grier wanted to blog, I don't think he really could, given the antagonistic climate that unfortunately exists right now. If he did blog, he'd have to turn off comments, and that's hardly a great way to be engaging. Unfortunately, I'm not sure the raging ends of the spectrum are ready for calm discussion right now, which is too bad.
BTW, I'm not taking sides on this. I have no vested interest and if I did, I'm sure I'd be every bit as upset as many people are.

John,
Terry Grier doesn't have the discretionary time to maintain a blog. He is too busy with his outside consulting business, and he is gone out of state much of the time.

Plus Stormy,
Grier has nothing to say. He works at the "pleasure of the board" which is his very own words. He makes NO decisions and seems quite proud to claim that he only does what the board "directs him to do."
Basically he's a gopher..and from what I know about that mammal, they dig holes, hide and steal things.

Sue,
Yes, you called it right, but unfortunately, the comments that were made are valid. Terry Grier is gone from the district much of the time making money with his outside business when he should be here, and when challenged regarding district issues, he always reponds that he only did what the board asked him to do. A Grier Blog would be worthless. Most of us already know his whole repertoire.
I'm sorry that everyone gets tired of all of the rants about Terry Grier on these blogs, but if someone could offer an effective measure for his ouster, it would be greatly appreciated. Until then, most of us are merely left with guerrila tactics. Meanwhile, the business of education of the county's students is on hold.

My child is doing quite well in the Guilford County School system. Unlike some "adults" who constantly complain (primarily about Terry Grier) about the school system, the lad motors on making good grades and looking forward to entering college in a few years.
Does he have some issues with the system (having to wait to drive 4 months after drivers ed classwork is one), you betcha, but as he tells me there are issues everywhere in life, some you can deal with, some need be left to a higher authority, and some can be resolved at the ballot box. For a 15 year old lad to say that, what maturity.
Mr. Grier is probably too decent of an individual to be exposed to the vitriol that spews from some of these adults who blog on The Chalkboard and distract from the subject on others. If I were him, I wouldn't insult myself by even acknowledging the childish rancor that many direct toward him.

Jon (if that's your real name and you're not Grier or a GCS employee posing as a parent),
My guess is that you, like many of us adults that prior to having their school dismantled and their child bused to their seventh closest scool, are content and satisfied because your lad appears to be "motoring along".
Put yourself and your child in a position of not knowing where he will attend high school. Take away the traditions that they have looked forward to during their adolesence (no Page vs. Grimsley rivalry). Take away the friendships your lad has developed with other kids throughout his early teens.
Now place your child into an underfunded, unproven, unwanted, unwarranted program in the most violent school in the county.
HOW WOULD YOU FEEL?
If your answer is anything other than angry, you're not being honest.
That being said, if you feel this is still a wonderful idea, why aren't you and others promoting this to be a county-wide program?
If we are a county wide school system, the same lottery should be in place for all. It's either all or none ...... not a High Point way of doing things and a Greensboro way. Which is it?

Sue,
My guess is that you're not a parent or a taxpayer. Otherwise I assume you are under-informed.
The waste that has occured at the expense of our children and our pocketbook has created the antagonism you refer to.
Mr Grier looks out for Mr Grier. His resume' and ego are his #1 concern. Not our children.

Tim,
Here's what my perception of this entire High Point (HP) thing is and the reason the School Board is redistributing the kids around the various schools.
It all points to FANTASIA BARRINO (FB), and the rotten education she got in HP. FB sullied HP's reputation to the world and made it plain that HP promoted her, an illiterate, from one class to the other and thus hurt her self-esteem.
I believe the Board has committed itself to not wanting to produce any more FB's in the HP school districts. Thus, they've decided to redistribute students from the good and bad schools to prevent this from happening in the future, hoping that the good school's brainiacs will rub off on the poorer schools unfortunates.
This is what teamwork is all about, the kids wanting to help one another to achieve better grades and not wind up like FB, illiterate, rich, famous, talented and OOHP (Out Of High Point).
In a sad sort of way, FB has helped to improve education for the youth of HP. For that we thank her.

Tim,
One other thing.
I'm NOT an employee of the county, it's school system, nor am I a sycophant of Terry Grier.
Sue and I, of course it's my opinion, are the only ones who apparently can speak with some degree of civility to this issue that apparently obsesses you and others to no end.
Truth knowing, the kids aren't adversely impacted as much by this change as some of the parents are. Kids are pretty resilient and can suffer change better than apparently some of their parents can with respect to the HP school "controversy."
