Staff changes
We announced some new staff assignments this afternoon. This is the announcement that I sent out to the newsroom.
I'm pleased to announce several changes in the News Department.
Tom Steadman will become High Point editor. Tom brings a vast knowledge and variety of experience to the job, having been an editor and reporter at the News & Record for more than 20 years. He's worked in the news, sports and community news departments, and when he was state editor in the 1980s, he was in charge of our High Point coverage. He replaces Michael Grossman. Tom will assume his new role after the holidays.
Michael will become the leader of the News Department's online operation. He will coordinate the newsroom’s online efforts to build new content, and he will work closely with the Interactive Department. He will lead the online team of Michael Fuchs and Lex Alexander. Michael also has a depth of experience, having been a reporter and editor, and spent four years as the news content editor of www.News-Record.com. Michael will assume the job in January.
Kenwyn Caranna, who has been a copy editor for seven years, will become a city/state editor. Kenwyn has had a variety of experiences in newspapers. She was a reporter in Kernersville during the early days of the growth initiative, and she was a reporter for several papers in Florida prior to coming to the News & Record. She was also an assistant city editor at the Bradenton Herald. She will assume her new job as soon as we’ve hired her replacement.
Jeri Rowe, editor of Go Triad, will become a metro columnist, writing about the people in our community. This new position was created to help bring more personality to the news pages of the paper. Jeri has already established a name and persona in the community through his column and leadership of Go Triad and TriadStyle. In the beginning, he will file two columns a week. Jeri will also spearhead the News Department’s participation in researching and developing a new, improved www.GoTriad.com site. Jeri will assume his new beat after helping the new Go Triad editor, Carla Kocinski, learn the job. (Lorraine Ahearn will continue to write her column Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.)
We're fortunate to have these experienced folks ready to step in and look forward to great things.
I'll elaborate on how our online structure will change in a later post.
