The News & Record is working with a grad student at UNC-Chapel Hill who is doing research on our blogs, who reads them, who comments on them, what blogs mean to them, etc. As part of that, some commenters with working e-mail addresses have been contacted and asked to complete an online survey.
I've met the student, Robin Roger, and have offered our help, although we haven't done anything yet. Robin doesn't work for us, and we aren't funding her study in any way. I have not seen the survey and don't know what's in it. We didn't provide her with the e-mail addresses; she gathered them herself.
All that said, if you got a message from her, help the kid out. I'm interested in seeing the results of her work.
In about two weeks, she's going to open up the survey to anyone. I'll let you know when that is and how to get to the web survey.

Glad you made a post on this. I just received the e-mail and wasn't sure if it was real or a hoax with a virus attached. My alert came up but perhaps it is because of the type of attachment. I scanned it but it appears to be clean. I was going to have to chech with you or Charlie to see if it was real. Thanks for clarifying.

I also recieved the e-mail from Robin but deleted it because I have had trouble with a virus once and certainly don't want to ever go thru that again. If you could somehow let her know to try me again I would be happy to help with survey. As a former university instructor I know how difficult students find it to get people to take time to do research surveys.

Thank you to everyone who has filled out the survey so far. I appreciate your time. Brenda - I will definitely send you a new e-mail. John - Thanks for writing about the survey and letting people know my e-mails are not trying to sell them anything or give them a virus. I'm excited to open it up to everyone and get some input from people who may not comment, but still read the blogs.
