39 years and going strong
Staff writer Jim Schlosser is featured in the June issue of Guilford College Magazine. It's a good piece.
Don Patterson describes Jim the best when he said that there "'was no better feeling than to drive into the company parking lot and to see Jim's blue VW parked nearby.' Because he was there, 'you knew that day there was going to be something interesting to put in the newspaper.'"
It's in the past tense because Don was describing his days as an editor, but I have the same feeling today when I walk into the newsroom at 8 a.m. and Jim's blue blazer is draped over the bookshelf by his desk.
Al Thomy, who started at the Daily News in 1944, and A.J. Carr of the N&O are featured, too.

Yes, but in a heartbreaking sign that nothing is forever, I've finally found the one newspaper reporter in America even more productive than Jim is. When I broke this news to Jim, modest as he is, he actually took it as criticism. I had to explain to him that being the No. 2 guy in the country behind a kid less than half his age who doesn't eat lunch was not exactly slacking off.

I have appreciated Jim Schlosser's journalistic
talents for a long time, dating back to 1967 when he and I worked together at The Greensboro
Record. Later, during the years I worked at UNCG, it was interesting to see Jim continue to
grow as a professional in his field.
Therefore, it was an enjoyable assignment to write the aforementioned feature story on Jim for Guilford College's June alumni magazine.
When I interviewed Jim for the story, I asked him about his knack for taking a controversial story and splitting it fairly down the middle. He replied, "I couldn't do it any other way and live with myself."
Aside from his fair-minded approach, what makes Jim such a good reporter is his curiosity and interest in so many things. So keep up the good work, Jim. Your readers really appreciate it!
