Jim Schlosser: 40 years and counting
Forty years ago today, Jim Schlosser started at the Greensboro Record, the afternoon paper at the time. He has written countless stories, won numerous awards, influenced hundreds of journalists and shaped the way people in Guilford County understand the history, life and times of their city.
He has won accolades from readers, many of whom recognize his byline. He jumped into blogging, but is taking a break so that he can prepare a book for the city's bicentennial celebration.
And as you can see, he's still cranking it out. Jim, you're my hero.

Jim makes it look easy, even to people in the trade who know that it's not.
And he's one of the genuinely nice guys out there, too.

Jim is an inspiration to those of us who often find ourselves struggling for story ideas.
He once wrote a story - an entire story - on how people bring their broken vacuum cleaners to a store called Electronix of North Carolina on High Point Road. Customers often confuse it for an Electrolux repair shop.
I read it. And nearly four years later, I still remember it. Only Jim Schlosser could pull that off.

He's always been one of my favorite writers of local stories.

Back when I worked as a copy boy for the old Greensboro Daily News in the late 1960's, my primary work station was located in the wireroom, which was located between the offices for The Record and the Daily News.
As the reporters typed out their stories on those old Underwood Typewriters, I noticed that most of them appeared to be either stressed out or downright grumpy but not Jim Schlosser. He always seemed to be having the time of his life; smiling and almost laughing at times.
I hope that he's still enjoying his work like he did back then
