Wicked = media

From an Editor's Log reader:

I went to a Bible literature class at our church last night. The idea behind the lesson is to break down each chapter, each verse -- each clause and word even -- and examine what is being said. It's actually pretty interesting. Anyway, our first verse was Psalm 1:1.

"Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!"

So the first question the instructor posed was, "What does it mean to be blessed?"

Silence from the crowd.

His second question: "OK, then, tell me why this verse begins in the negative?"

A few coughs and sneezes but still more silence.

Finally he asks, "Who is the wicked?"

A woman, maybe 65ish, raised her hand without missing a beat: "The media."

I'm thinking she's talking about the liberal Hollywood elite media, right?

Or perhaps she means the media like the Washington Post and the New York Times, that have basically applauded as the White House lied its way into war and shredded the constitution.

Note that the more front page space this week has been devoted to the person who bought Edwards' house than to the purging of federal prosecutors.

You may be doing a good job... but my teenagers aren't growing up reading newspapers, because I'm unwilling to contribute a dime toward a product that prefers gossip to truth, that -- as David Sirota notes -- holds no-one accountable.

Perhaps if reporters and editors said that they were working to do "good", and then define what they meant by that, we wouldn't all be seeing them as evil.

Wow. That's the exact opposite of the complaint I was expecting.

Too cloistered and respectful of power rather than a tool of the liberal elite trying to bring down the president, make conservatives look foolish, hand America over to "special interests," minorities and godless wretches without The Truth.

Funny how you get it either way.

I think you should buy the domain, JR: "wickedmedia.com" and then have a bunch of fun with it.

Perhaps she sees an ironic, cynical media sitting in those seats with the scoffers.

Reb,
I agree with you
A tv station this week carried a story on the Duke case. I quote NC is a good ole boy state.
The press + politicians = NC Justice
Have you heard any paper call for punishment for
Nifong? These young men lives are ruined. Nifong goes scott free. Justice in NC. Liberal papers in NC never let facts get in the way of their verison of the truth.

An editorial in the News & Record on Jan. 1 called for Nifong to be held accountable.
