Jim Black
Mark Binker has some great audio from the Jim Black's attorney outside the courthouse in Raleigh.
A reporter asked why Black accepted "illegal gratuities: "That's a great mystery to me," attorney Ken Bell responds. "It's a great shame that he did this to himself."

Answering with a straight face, John, was that small unimportant detail left out by accident?
Please stop laughing long enough to catch your breath and have a nice weekend.

Jim,
The WSJ writer Scott Sexton has a great story on this. Another fact left out Bill Faison, quote, what Mr. Black did is like getting a speeding ticket doing 60 in a 55 zone.Of course we taxpayers paid for his lawyers, another little item, that slipped under the radar.

Every morning one of the first things I do is clean out the comment spam that attacks this site overnight. As I started to respond to tony here, I noticed that jim wilson's original comment, pointing out that the story about Jim Black on our homepage neglected to mention Black's political affiliation, is missing. I can only guess that I accidentally deleted it just now. My apologies, jim.
My first comment above was responding to jim's comment, and we immediately added that Black is a Democrat.
tony, the story was written by the AP so I can't speak to the intent of the writer.

Alright, Robinson, where the hell is the caption contest? You've got me all hyped to see if I won this morning and ... nothing. I'm going to take my talents back to The New Yorker's on-time version.

David, it's going up shortly. We had some issues and it got left out of the paper. It'll be in the paper tomorrow. But, sorry, you didn't win.

Understood, sorry John, comments withdrawn.

No need, tony. I was just trying to give a straight-faced answer, as requested. The writer clearly goofed. The story obviously should have had that Black was a Democrat. When we post AP stories, we don't edit them all that thoroughly under the belief -- occasionally misguided -- that they have been edited before they're sent to us.
