Front page ads
We're testing our ability to place 3'x3' 3''x3'' advertising stickers on the front page in some papers tomorrow and Saturday. Because it's a test, these weren't sold to an advertiser and therefore, the effect won't be quite the same. If you get one, let me know what you think.

The W-S Journal has used the stickers in the past and I can give you the following feedback as a reader: they grab your attention and I'd say they are far more effective than traditional space ads. If I were you I'd charge a premium rate to your advertisers.

Three feet by three feet? Advantage: Definitely would grab my attention. Disadvantage: Would prevent me from grabbing my newspaper. ;-)

Heh. Have this vision of a 12" Stonehenge monument beiing lowered from the ceiling.

Can't see how or why another ad would hurt - much of the paper now is little more than ads.

I did not like it. It is, however a distant second to the fold-over on the first page of the comics in the Sunday paper.

The foldover thing on the Sunday comics has caused me to bookmark what I want read and then do so online. Comics have RSS and shouldn't have foldover paper that tears the whole thing when you try to rip it off.

FWIW, my daughter is with astroboy and sue on the foldover. She very grumpily and resentfully tears it off the comics every Sunday. I've tried to explain that the foldover is paying for her breakfast. Unfortunately, she's not, shall we say, buying it.

You'll be happy Sunday, then, because the comics have no foldover ad.

The one on my paper peeled off easily.
That's not to say it was very appealing to me.

Speaking of the Sunday comics brings to mind one ad that is surely properly placed - the comic book type ad for A&T.
