Hell knows no fury
...like a Wildcat scorned! We make a simple mistake in a caption on the front page saying that Carolina and Duke are the state's only teams going to the NCAA, and you'd think that we had confused Stephen Curry with Stephon Marbury. All these Davidson fans have gone Bobby Knight on us!
OK, OK, we screwed up. If we needed a reminder -- we didn't -- that fans take their college allegiances dead seriously, this was it. We know that Davidson is in North Carolina. We even have Davidson grads working here. As dispensation, we've been asked to profile the team on the front page and to publish a poster of Curry, their leading scorer. Perhaps when the team gets to the Final Four....

So if Davidson makes the Final Four, will you shave your head?

If St. Andrews makes the Final Four, maybe. Why would I do such a thing if Davidson gets there? Penance? Uh, no.

I bet if St. Andrews made the NCAA tournament, the N&R would at least remember the school was in NC. (And, John, based on what I've seen in the St. Andrews' annuals from the early 70s, shaving your head would not be a fitting tribute either from you or to the school.)

That's ok, this Davidson grad wasn't aware that Greensboro had a newspaper.
Greensboro? Oh yeah - gas station exit, near High Point, on the way to Charlotte. Right?
Ridiculous.
Here's an idea: how about you run an actual correction, on the same page the error was made on?
That ought to be a rule for ALL corrections, actually.

By the way, I found a picture of Maryland's hopes in the first round:

Davidson has a basketball team? Who knew? Thanks for the info, John.

John,
As an alum and 10-year resident of the town, I'm not sure it is wise to defend Davidson by calling Greensboro a "gas station exit . . . on the way to Charlotte."

Jill,
I am sure you learned about hyperbole before you got to Davidson. Right? I'm also reasonably sure they don't remove the trash-talk gene when you enroll.
And I grew up in High Point. All residents of High Point, by virtue of having been talked down to and taken for granted by Greensboro for decades, have the absolute right to take advantage of any opportunity to stick it to the News & Record.

I've got no problem sticking it to the N&R (just ask JR), I just wanted to make sure that you are maintaining Davidson's high standards for trash talking. (Providing contextual information about HP helped.) Go cats. Alenda lux.

Ne ultra.

Whoa, there, you intellectuals talking in a strange language. Just because you have an inferiority complex doesn't mean you should take it out on us. And this is high quality trash talk?
Shoot, a Davidson grad from High Point who is a judge threatened to have a court bailiff arrest me yesterday if we didn't correct it.

Tell Judge Craig I agree he is within his powers to do so.
The "Davidson Mafia" are everywhere. Though I specifically disclaim Tony Snow.
