New site ready to go
We've launched the new site. We got dozens of feedback messages, almost all positive. We're still working on it, building inside pages. Bear with us there. And keep the feedback coming. It's helpful.
A sampling of the comments:
I think the redesign looks great. It places more news stories on the front page. You don't have to page through other tabs for other sections like before because most articles can be retrieved from the front page. Great job.

Nice clean look. Flow seems to work well scrolling down the page. Maybe people in other areas reading the site would want to customize the site for their weather. You all must be on the cutting edge of transitioning newspaper to Internet. Having read your paper for now 48 years and trying to stay computer savy, I appreciate your efforts.

I canceled my daily subscription 6 months ago. I may do so with Sunday. I haven’t unwrapped the Sunday edition in weeks. I go online directly to the big box, grocery and other ads. I open up 15 newspaper and blog tabs on my browser. One of which is the N&R. That said your newest online creation is an improvement. The previous one I’m sure had a lot of information but from day one I don’t think a tomb raider could get to much of it. Your server is the slowest of all sites I visit. Looks like this new online edition will be much easier to navigate. The entertainment tab is a great improvement. I check the movies and TV listings at Yahoo now because I can’t get to your content easily. I'll probably check Go Triad a couple of times a day now. You need to include a tab at the top of each entertainment page to return to the N&R front page. Not a front page link somewhere different on each page.
Above all how can you call yourself a newspaper when your (online) masthead does not contain the date of publication, and real time of day? I said I read 15 newspapers daily online. Every one of the publications includes this information except the N&R. Isn’t this taught in the first few days of journalism class?

Very appealing to the eye. The perception is that there is more news available than on the current page. More news is better (eg, charlotte.com, palmbeachpost.com, orlandosentinel.com). Especially enjoy the potential of more multimedia.

Site is too busy. Should consider moving all news headlines, Local, sports, business, national news, etc..directly under the latest headlines. All that other content between latest headlines and the other news links too much, and should be considered for the lower half of the page. I think you should capture all your important headlines first....then all the extra news items captured on the lower half of the page.

I really like the new layout and design! It's clean, simple -- the colors are nice and soothing. I specifically like the area about 1/2 way down the page that is sports, news, local, etc. in "blocks." Maybe (?) that could be moved up a bit. Otherwise, great job. A huge improvement. Also, as a web advertiser, I like the way the ads are handled. They're not as "random."
