State of the News Media
Gary Goldhammer sums up the State of the News Media more succinctly and sadly than all the other reports combined.
Among his points:
* A fake news organization sends a fake reporter to cover a real war
* A real local television station in Texas hires a fake anchorwoman as part of a reality TV show
* Google News allows subjects of news stories who feel their quotes were faked to post real corrections, though the corrections are not independently verified as true or false
More than ever it seems as if you're on your own.

John, thanks for the mention. I was intrigued by your last sentence, can you explain further? Do you feel that today's journalists have lost their "support network" and/or must fight with the rest of the "new media" for voice and acceptance?

I didn't articulate it very well, did I? The lines have become so blurred between entertainment and news that it's no surprise that the audience has a jaded view of the business I'm in. This isn't a new observation, but society seems to be marching ever onward into an era when "everything I know I learned from television" (and from the entertainment division not the news division) is the norm.
So, as a member of the audience, I have to do a lot of reading and watching and sorting to get to the news.
