Why people don't vote

We received this e-mail today:

Sadly, when reading the paper yesterday and today I find myself guilty of ignorance. I'm one of the ninety-three percent in Greensboro that didn't get out to vote at the primary. I should be better aware of our elections being held and when they occur yet I find myself struggling. I do not know where I can find the information which tells me.

It could be, and I'm not making excuses, that there are others like me that would have gone but were not aware of the dates. I'm not a regular television watcher and I don't read the paper much. If it were not for the radio news or CNN during breakfast I would never hear the goings on.

Do you have any suggestions on where I might go to get the facts on our local elections? Is there such a source? (Links added.)

This isn't so bad. There may be a lot of people who still don't know they missed a primary election.

I'm trying to muster sympathy for a person who isn't a regular television watcher and who doesn't read the paper much. But I can't. Anyone who cares about voting will figure out very quickly that there's ample information out there about the elections and the candidates.

I think most people don't vote because they simply see no differences in the candidates.

I admit that I'm not sure if the e-mail is legit or if the writer, who included name and address, is a voter and is trying to make a subtle point about low turnout.

Where can you learn more about the candidates for mayor? Well get all dressed up and go to some fancy ladies luncheon ( in the N & R today ). That's really flushing out the issues and differences between Kern and Johnson. NOT ! Wonder if Billy the Blogging Poet is invited. The dowagers from Irving Park would probably want innoculations before he would be allowed to speak . In the Mayor's race it's tweedledee and tweedledum except Johnson has got some skeletons like her non-profit, her/her husbands delinquent taxes and deep secrets about Homstead. You can almost get away with anything
in city government once elected as long as Mitch Johnson and Walt Jones run Grensboro. Vote?
It only encourages them !

Well the only reason I can give at this point is to get a council with the cajones to fire Mitch and Linda.

Oh Mr. Robinsonso jaycee sends his best to you and your Canda Dry deal.

Cheap shot, Mr. Locklear. What does the would-be Canada Dry deal have to do with the post at hand? Please explain. And speaking of the election, when did the honorable B.B.P. throw his hat into the ring anyway?

Billy, you shoot a straight arrow, put them all in bag, shake them up and pour them out, and they are all the same. Case and point Congress McIntyre(NC) is going to vote for the child health program, seems he thinks we Americans need to pay for illegals health care. Looks like to me he should be running for a office in Mexico.Every time I pick up a Va. paper, is doing something to help the illegals on the tax payers dime.
