Questions about the sale
Relevant to maybe something or probably nothing, I don't know: I understand from the publisher that TV and radio stations were calling for comment on the possible sale of the paper. I know he was pretty occupied all day reassuring employees that it was not apocalypse now. I don't know if or how many news inquiries he ended up handling.
Meanwhile, no one asked me any intelligent questions on the blog post below, at least as of this writing. So, does that mean the news media didn't know about this blog, that they didn't care to ask me, that they didn't need information but needed a talking head, or something else entirely?
It isn't particularly important, but it is curious to me. As more and more people are online, isn't that where the news media goes, to where the people -- including us -- are?
(I know Neill McNeill of Fox knows about blogs. He comments here.)

Best of luck with everything, John. You all have had plenty of storms to weather this past year. I always thought you were a decent guy, and I hope there is still a home for you and all the other good folks there once this "multi-month process" unfolds.
And to the numbskulls on this blog who seem to be happy about this development, I say this: Although you may not agree with the editorial slant of the N&R or care for any of the writers, try to remember that these are real people with lives, bills and families. Not only that, they are diligent, dedicated journalists who truly care about their craft. I know first-hand; I spent five-plus years in the newsroom and sports department working with many of them.
The next several months are probably going to be, to say the least, nerve-racking for everyone at the paper. So, have a heart. And while you're at it, get a life.

I think we may be forgetting an important group in G-Boro who have the most to lose if the N&R morphs into some other entity-corrupt cops. No matter what people think, corrupt cops are people too. With the N&R as we know it gone, who do they turn to when they have a police chief who makes them work undesirable shifts or scutinizes their on and off-work business enterprises and they need him gone. Who ya gonna call?

Another bothersome thing: in the front page story today where it quotes community leaders saying the N&R was a good citizen, not by the fact that it paid fair wages and put out a good product, but by the fact that it made significant charitable contributions.
I mean, I know this is Guilford co. and everything, and charity is important, but you can't judge business' by how much you can put the bite on them. If companies think they are going to get taxed to death AND the bite put on them by coming to a community. NOTE TO GUILFORD CO. LEADERS: THEY WILL FIND SOMEPLACE ELSE TO GO!!!!! DO NOT FEATURE THIS PROMINENTLY IN PROMOTING OR ATTACHING A VALUE TO PROSPECTIVE BUSINESS' IN GUILFORD CO. ( as well as not shouting from the rooftops about the locally-regulated minimum wage proposal).
