Presidential candidate logos

Think designing a newspaper is easy? Check out the typography critique of the candidates' (and now former candidates') logos.

These guys pick McCain and Obama based on typography, design and fairy dust.

Me, I'm just hoping for an NFC winner on Sunday.

(Thanks to Mel for the pointer.)

Steve Welker said:

Back in July, Michael Bierut of Pentagram, interviewed in Newsweek, and Samuel John Klein of Designorati dissected the typography of the leading candidates' bumper stickers. Klein noted that Giuliani and Edwards both used the same typeface (Ventura); months later the irony is they both dropped out on the same day. Neither designer commented on Huckabee, seen as a nonstarter six months ago. Both criticized McCain's choice of Optima. Bierut labeled it "a hybrid for people who can't decide between a serif or sans serif" -- an apt description of a maverick candidate whose political record challenges GOP voters to decide whether he's sufficiently Republican. And as for Mitt Romney, Bierut said presciently, "This looks like the bumper sticker of someone who's not going to win."
